It is tempting just to try a pizza rack and avoid overloading it.

I’ve been overloading mine and doing some sweet (tiny) jumps with it loaded, fingers crossed I don’t die.

I even took pics to prove on way home.

most cheap 650b wheelsets are MTB rear spacing which is like 142 or whatever it is ...

Depends what you’re planning on running. You can get deore hubs on Alex/weinman 650b etc on eBay for about £80-90 a pair - if running road 11 speed you would need to use a sram mtb cassette as they will only take mtb 11 speed not road 11 speed.

I am planning on running a 10spd with 1x deore cranks ...

do you think those can be de-stickered?

A lot of them are 142 ThruAxle but often you can remove / replace the end caps to make them 135 QR.

I'm about to add a Surly Straggler fork to my Equilibrium disk for added tyre girth and front rackability. Anything to bear in mind?

If you have an older one with the straight head tube, no.
Dimensions are no doubt different so it'll probably handle a bit differently but you're putting a rack on it so handling won't be the primary concern.

The disc trucker fork has an A-C of 390 rather than 400, which may suit better.

Any workarounds to make this work? I thought 1 1/8 steerer was my only concern. 🙄

Hmmm ok. I'm not totally sure it's 1.5" (I had an Arkose with 1 1/8-1.5 taper and this is smaller)

Why the downgrade?

Long story but I have had lots of punctures with my GKs and fancied a tougher fork that would allow for carrying things on the front. I hate the 'wagging' feeling of the pannier when I'm carrying stuff.
If anyone has a better idea then I'm all ears. Very happy to hold on to the Straggler fork for a future project.

I've thought of putting carbon forks on a couple of my steel bikes but then get overwhelmed by fork rake/trail balance etc. And I generally don't want to die on a bike ...
