Surprise! Another retro mtb project :-)
I've had very little spare time these past months, but with an upcoming 3 months of parental leave, and another 3 months later on im hoping ill have some time and peace of mind to focus on family and bikes.
Thanks to @platypus for a fucking valiant effort in helping me get this bike from Taunton to Copenhagen!
Fun little fork, but rigid is defs the way to go here..
Excuse the crap phone pics..

Im going to run XTR v's front and back, so will need to find a different fork. Then i can use that rad wheelset in the mockup :D (Bontrager Race Lite hubs on ceramic rims)

-
• #559
Almost 3 months.
Best thing I've ever done. Without doubt.

Yea its wonderful. This is where it all begins.

Eyyy, I spy that cheeky split down tube nishiki frame in the background. Cruisey bike for your significant other or yet to be decided frame?
-
• #562
Haha good eye. Yea thats for her, will just be a simple beater thing with a footy 3 speed wheelset. The BB, stem and seatpost are all stuck tho :/
-
• #563
Bloody hell that will be quite an undertakin my man! Good luck with it, although your Danish bike magic will probz sort it out.

Here we go :)

Bought this Bonty Race Light wheelset a while back off a good fellow. Perfect for this Lobster build with XTR v's front back.
Ceramic rims for rad braking
DT Swiss / Hüggi star ratchet internals (54t upgrade soon to come)
It had some frozen nipples (heh) that needed to be dealt with, the old spokes looked a lot like DT competition.
Is there something about ceramic rims being hard to true? I feel like every time i would twist a spoke to get rid of a little kink, it would pop up somewhere else!
Finally got it up to my standards though so well pleased. -

XTR, and I’m pretty sure it’ll work with your sram shifter

+1 on that, XTR is love.

Test ride status: Its rolling, shifting, and braking beautifully. Was smiling the entire time.
Just a few things left to do..
-compressionless brake cables (matchty yellow or keep black?)
-maybe one more turquoise thing (possibly seatclamp)
-inline post not sure if black or silver, but its 27.0 :/
-new xt bottom bracket (in the post)
-ceramic specific pads

Looks awesome already! How's the handling with a stem and bar combo like this? I might try a setup like that in the near future.
Woah yea, that sounds extremely difficult. I think you've been unlucky ;)
And yea, you can get up there! Well, sort of. Not allowed in the weekends for non residents, and no biking, both of which we found out after getting yelled at.
