Don't know what that Ineos rider was up to, better to look ahead and stay straight at those speeds

Seem's like Landa was not very happy with Yates.

No prizes for guessing what caused Dumoulin's injuries.
-
• #21332
Christ that's nasty.

• #21333
a chinese burn?

• #21334
disc brakes, smh
-
• #21335
Chainring surely, given the oil marks.
-
• #21336
nah must be a contaminated disc rotor which will have caused the crash

Meintjes has twice finished in the top ten at the Tour. Surely that makes him a GC contender?
Not sure it does. The time gaps from podium to 8th can be vast.
Edit - about seven minutes both times he was 8th. So not huge but he’d need to get very lucky to be on the podium.

From the 10 min highlights was Dumoulin the unidentified Sunweb rider in the ditch at the big crash?
-
• #21339
I think that was haga

Yates uses too many emojis.
For this reason, I'm out
-
• #21341
Yes it was. He'd stopped in time to avoid the crash, then got hit from behind and knocked into the ditch.
-
• #21342
I'd expect him to not start.
Looks horrible. Plus time to recover and get in shape for the tour.
-
• #21343
He was eligible for the white jersey both times. You’d expect him to improve as he ages, as he’d shown the ability to contend for GC from a young age. Except his development seems to have stalled, but then, as we were discussing, DD seem to hinder the development of all their riders.

Dunbar ? Peloton has been remarkably quiet about it considering he started the crash that bought a lot of people down.

I don't understand why the UCI don't just ban crashing. You can only take a leak where they tell you but you can fall off anywhere you like. Time they sorted their priorities out.

It was Salvatore Puccio.
It was a racing incident, he checked behind him briefly, and whilst his head was turned, the riders to his right moved across him.
You can’t go round witch-hunting every time there is a crash, they are part and parcel of the day to day life of the peloton.
Anyway, that wasn’t the crash that caused Dumoulin’s injuries. He crashed again, along with Yates and Landa, shortly afterwards on a roundabout, but the tv cameras didn’t capture it because the race was split into lots of groups.

I think they've sorted out a crash zone for this Giro between 3 and 10km to go.
-
• #21348
It wasnt the sky riders fault.
It was just one of those racing incidents. You could blame any of the Scott racers who swerved. Or the person that caused the swerve. Etc. -

Anyway, today we’ll have the traditional Giro doping scandal as Kristijan Koren has been named in La Gazzetta as being involved in the Austrian-German doping scandal that Denifl and Priedler were named in. Koren is riding the Giro for Bahrain-Merida.

Dumoulin seems to be saying it's the Puccio crash on cycling news?
In a team press release, Dumoulin explained how the crash had happened, saying that "[Salvatore] Puccio crashed. I think he touched a wheel or something and he took me and [Ion] Izagirre [Astana] down with him".

The most interest of course happened as soon as I posted how boring it was... One crash with a few km to go.
