  • Jacket ordered. Seems like a bargain, I quite like that it doesn't really look like a motorcycle jacket. Spec is impressive and the price is fantastic. Just restocked sizes this week after a whole out of stock if it interests anyone.

  • it's just all or nothing stuff but it's like a religion to those who do it!

Nail on the head. You hear people saying "do they not care about their families/self regard etc etc".
They're more aware of the repercussions than anyone else, they just can't not do it. It's a driving force for them.

  • The pros hitting those speeds is one thing, I’ve seen vids where there’s like 3 or 4 bikes with riders who have never met each other let alone ridden together and they’re tipping it into corners at 150mph+.

    Fuck. That.

There’s also a clip on YouTube of a guy riding up the mountain at a ridiculous yet perfectly legal speed and he sees a cop car parked up at the side and instinctively grabs a handful of front brake which just starts his bike cartwheeling down the road!

  • A CSB moment.

    Guy Martin.
Met him at races a few times, exactly what you see on the telly in real life.
A weird hybrid of Fred Dibnah and Steve McQueen.

    So.... csb.

After racing the Fort William DH enduro on the World Cup DH track and finishing on a Hardtail, i go for a post race slash before i seize up.

I am quite distinctive and easy to spot when racing back then (Hells Angel among MX'ers look)

So mid flow... squeeky voice "your the fella on a hardtail"
I kinda finish the business in hand and sort of recognise the voice.

Holy shit it's Guy Martin for real, in reality, i am very tired but Guy Martin is talking to me.....

GM your the fella on a hardtail, hats off to you, i couldn't do what you just did.

Me, your the fella that fireballs motor bikes at IOM at 180mph, i couldn't do that.

A bizarre encounter and post race chat ensued. GM summed up DH MTB as a bit of fun, at worst you break a leg or collar bone, serious injury is unlikely.
The hook with the IOM was a single mistake, error, and your dead, that was the rush. Make a mistake and your dead. He couldn't remember the fireball incident but was surprised not to be dead.
GM thinks i am nuts, i think he's nuts.

I still have a race time sheet with me in something like 94th and i punched a hole in the back of a leg while trying not to highside off the track at the deer fence crossing ( i touched the brakes)
GM is 95th and binned a factory hope/Orange/Fox bike and knocked himself out.

    IOM racers are nuts.

  • That Duke is a bit quick! Worth mentioning that Rutter is basically doing an exhibition lap (part of an old PB test) - he's going quick but not full beans by any measure. It's shocking as you get to see the speedo. For reference, that's a 123mph average lap - the lap record, held by Peter Hickman is an utterly mindboggling 135mph!

Check this out...he gives commentary too.

  • @jambon - That looks fab mate - they're really great tyres and don't really need much scrubbing in. A few gentle laps of a roundabout should do you!

  • Second vid is much smoother than the first. First was balls out and no room for error.
I’d defy anyone to watch it without moving their head through the corners.

  • @jung cheers! Did what felt like hours of reading about which tyres to get and thought they fitted the bill - 50% road/50% track. Was between these Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II's and the Michelin Power RS, being Italian (although made in Germany) that half clinched it. Only did 10 gentle miles on them today and to the touch felt just as warm as the old sport touring Avons after a whole day of riding which I thought was interesting.

  • Have some Dainese Waterproof boots that don't fit my feet, and an Oxford Textile combo thats quite a bit too big for me- even at a small.
Anyone interested- please PM me. Probably £100 for the boots and £100 for the suit combo.
Worn for about 100miles. Always well stored otherwise.

  • Italjet formula 125? My fave scooter - twin cylinder 2 stroke. So much fun.

  • On the eurotunnel on the way home now. Another 800 mile day.

    Definitely hurting a bit...

  • It's really pretty absurd.

You'd be fair to assume they're all just bombastic thrill seekers, but from the way him and others speak, they all have a very real and humbled awareness of how ludicrous this all is.

The section where he reiterates that it took him weeks to learn how to go flat out in a section really got to me. Weeks of work on a single section. It's commitment and learning.

    Much salute.

  • Watch the Steve Hislop TT video. He described ‘a kerb jumping out’ on a series of bends which there is a straight line through. I’m pretty sure it’s prior to Ginger Hall - defo before Ramsey.
I have a notion that it may be the same as Rutter mentions but maybe not. If you ever go to the IoM you can actually see it happen as you ride through - traffic permitting. Lol

  • Did you get the AGV X3000 in the end?

  • Haven't picked one up yet but settled on getting one alright!

  • This is hilarious. His mind moves faster than he can spit it out.

  • Does anyone have any recommendations for a mechanic in S London? I need help getting my Honda running again... blocked jets/carb clean, track down an oil leak, go over the brakes, that kind of stuff.

  • Chas Bikes have always been really good to me, next to the Imperial War Museum

On another note - I got a PCN for parking on a red route on Clapham High Street. The sign has no stopping 7am to 7pm except loading for 20 minutes between 10am and 7pm.

I was in and out of boots in less that 3 minutes as buying calpol for the small person so is this something I can contest or just suck it up and pay?

EDIT - just UTFS for TFL red routes and turns out there is some small print:

    What you should do

Use a loading bay to collect pre-ordered goods or unload goods that require a vehicle to transport them (eg an item of furniture such as a chest of drawers)

    What you shouldn't do

Stop in the bay without loading or unloading - the bay is not for waiting or parking
Use the bay outside of the hours shown on the sign or for longer than permitted
Use the bay to park or go shopping
Use the bay to pick up and drop off passengers
Remain in the bay when you have finished loading or unloading goods
Move goods that do not require the use of a vehicle to transport (eg taking a suit to the dry cleaners or collecting a prescription)

  • Chas Bikes still going?? Awesome, I went to their old place on Gt Suffolk St a few times. Ta!

  • NW200 this week, all on bbc.

  • Unless this is contingent on ULEZ mumbo jumbo (we don't have it in Ireland so I'm not familiar) I'd much rather some early nineties superbike carry on...

  • Yep. Needs to be newer than 2006/07 roughly or it’s £12.50 per day to use in the city

  • Bad times :(

Can't you independently have your vehicle assessed to see if it meets regulation actually? I think I read that in Octane? Surely there's lots of older bikes that would pass?

  • Yeah you can do that. There’s a fee involved and if you’ve already got the bike then it makes sense but I won’t buy a bike without an exemption on the hope that it would pass when it’s tested because then if it doesn’t I’m stuck trying to sell it again
