Suckage. I wonder if he even had the time cut in mind on a prologue?
-
• #21278
It was actually a stage 1 TT not a prologue, inner ring did a tweet explaining the time cut would apply so I assume the teams knew.

Roglic ftw. Just cos his team is pretty low-end so he'll have to earn it and hopefully ride more strategically than Yates last year.
Can't believe Movistar still doing this three leaders thing...
I'm nowhere near the action but fucking windy today...

I see.
"Prologue? strictly speaking a prologue is an opening time trial up to 8km in length but it is equally possible to start with a time trial and label it as Stage 1 too. So it’s semantics but with one difference: should a rider crash during a prologue and be unable to complete the course they are permitted to start the race the next day and get the same time on GC as the last rider in the prologue; if the opening TT is labelled as Stage 1 and the rider does not complete the course then they are out of the whole race."
Still wonder if he was aware. They might not have made a big thing of it thinking it wasn't a risk. But then Rogi smashes it and how much time is there between him and this rider? Unfortunate anyway.

Has the final climb on the prologue featured on a road stage of something at some point in the last few years? Or something that had a similar looking vaulted structure along the side of the road (maybe even wooden!)?

It’s used as the finish for the Giro d’Emilia, one of the Italian autumn semi-classics.

It was also used as a Giro road stage finish in 2009. Simon Gerrans won from a break, after dropping some unknown Barloworld rider called Christopher Froome.

Cheers! That's been bugging me - thought it looked familiar.

Tao has been down and has a cut on his knee. Missed it and just heard a bit on commentary. Anyone know more? It appears that he is getting support from his team which is good.

Ackerman shot his load too early with the wind but looking like he can take Viviani one on one

Viviani with a great sprint.

Now to see who lost out in the splits.

Looked like 1'26 if my near identical red fade kit ID abilities are sufficiently honed now...

Tao loses 1.31

Bora hit the front far too early.
Viviani looked very close to chopping the front wheel of the Trek Segafredo rider.

Sosa for leader?
-
• #21297
Anyone else would be disqualified if they made that move. But the current Italian national champ in the Giro, maybe.

Wonder if Velon would have converted to noodle soup if it was a French rider.

I’m not surprised, that was a dangerous move.
What nightmares are made of. Poor bugger. https://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/racing/giro-ditalia/first-rider-leaves-giro-ditalia-2019-missing-time-cut-opening-8km-time-trial-423051
