• I was car doored on Thursday in Croydon near a primary school (The Crescent) - somewhat ruined my day/weekend as too bruised to pedal. Fortunately no broken bones and was caught on Go Pro. Arse refused to give insurance details, so went to plod to record it.... turns out the car was insured, though no idea if the driver who took me out is.

Anyhoo, my nearest bike shop is Evans Notting Hill and they say you have to book (and pay £35 for) a 'bronze' service. This is somewhat ludicrous as the frame is obviously bent - severe dent on down tube, query steerer tube out of alignment, forks a sideways. Does anybody have any suggestions for getting a damage assessment that an insurer will accept? Or should just swallow pride and leave the bike with Evans and add £35 to my claim.

  • Last time I needed a frame reviewed I paid a local frame builder and added that to the claim. Then for the bike as a whole I took it to an actual shop who could quote for other parts and labour to rebuild.

  • Glad to hear you didn't break anything. Doorings are often very dangerous and lead to serious injuries disproportionately often. I haven't heard of the mechanism Evans use; I've heard of bike shops assessing frames for free or for a much lower charge. Do you have another local bike shop you can try? Always better to support the independents.

  • I got T-boned near the Notting Hill Evans a few years ago. I walked to the tube and went to The London Bicycle Workshop in Hammersmith instead...
