  • 100% plywood not plasterboard on the walls. So much better for hanging shelves etc. You can always put PB over it later. Just don’t, for the love of god, use OSB.

  • With you on that. The only advantage I would have with going for plasterboard to beat that would be that I would know exactly where every stud would be. But still would be annoying in a workshop environment, I doubt it would take me long to punch a whole through a board with some timber.

What grade of plywood would you go for? Birch is so expensive :/

  • Just don’t, for the love of god, use OSB.

Is it OK for the exterior though? (Assuming cladding over it)

  • put PB over it later. Just don’t, for the love of god, use OSB.

Would OSB with PB over the top not be more economical and tougher than ply+OSB?

Ultimately if you want a home-like finish for the interior it has to be PB + paint.

  • I'm giving the internal wall lining some more thought and have been mmming and aaahing between MR MDF and plywood.

If plywood, would you leave gaps between boards and if yes, got any ideas on how to fill them or make them look nice?

Similar question with MDF? I was thinking it could give a nice smooth paintable surface so could look similar to a plastered finish if done right, but again the joints would be a problem. I imagine any filler I put in there would just crack down the line.

    Any thoughts most welcome!

  • Why not OSB for the walls? I’m just about to finish the frame for mine, so buying walls and vapour membrane is next for me
