There's a 'tester approved thread'.. don't think there's a 'ask tester anything thread'.

Thanks! This is a new thing for me. Also: Would compressionless outers make a big difference? I’ve changed frame type from road to mtb and the spongey v-brake feel is an ever present...

this isn't it?

• #97005
Might as well be!

If there where a 'ask tester anything' thread, then who's gonna use this one?

I'd like to get a couple of heavy duty mild steel brackets cut/milled/machined. Anyone on here can do it or recommend anyone?

Compressionless helps. What levers are you using?

Nope.
You yourself can't, not unless you're a moderator.

Show your drawings and give approximate location; you want a local shop, but which one depends on whether it's machining and a bit of fabrication or fabrication and a bit of machining

Anybody with any sense. Asking for my opinion to the exclusion of all others is high risk; I might give no answer, the wrong answer, or only one of the possible right answers. In this thread, there are plenty of other people to fill in the blanks/correct the errors/give a second opinion.

If there where
Obviously, there is only one right answer to this, and here it is; in your second conditional construction, you should have written "were" not "where".

Therein lies the issue. I don't have exact measurements. It's an It's an adapter plate to connect two parts that aren't supposed to go together.
Calipers to forks from two entirely different machines. London locatedSomething like this.

See? This thread is full of idiots :)

I don't have exact measurements
Nobody can help until you have measurements close enough to make it work, unless you're just going to hand the parts to them and ask them to design and build, in which case expect the cost to triple.
When I was a boy, 'arris was your man for caliper adapters, if they don't have an OTP solution they can probably make one

Thanks.

Brilliant. I just got some crash bungs delivered from them as well! I'll give them a shout again.

Touring/Audax type people.
If I was gonna ride from Leeds to Amsterdam - not camping, more likely B&Bs/Hostels - is something like a Ribble 525 okay for that type of ride? ie - will take panniers and not break my back.

Be aware it only has rear rack mounts, so you won't be able to install a low rider rack on the fork for example.

Avid FR-5s; mostly because they’re enough lever (and were a fiver on here)
-
• #97022
Not sure what you're asking, you'd be fine on one of these depending on what kind of speed you move at/how much luggage you'd take.
I'd say if you're not camping you should be able to get away with a big Carradice.

For frame protection, has anyone used clear gorilla tape as a cheaper alternative to 3m helitape? If so, what were the results like?
-
• #97024
Suspect it will yellow and look shit
-
• #97025
Ha, definitely not.
I've never ridden anything even remotely close to having panniers before. But don't really need to go full Tourer. So not sure what to get.
There is, isn't there?
