  • You're missing the bit about being farmers, quite possibly with cows. That makes butter (home made, from your own herd) cheap and coffee (from halfway across the world, paid for in hard currency, highly processed and passing through multiple intermediaries) expensive.

  • Would have thought that being a farmer with cows would actually mean drinking your coffee with milk.

  • Isn’t this like the whole myth of milk with tea, that it’s only ever drank with milk here because dairy farmers pushed it that way?

  • Black, darjeeling is the only way to drink tea anyway

  • Heresy! With condensed milk and 'pulled' for the froth Malaysian style! Try it, you'll like it... ;)

    fixed

  • Thanks for the advice on thru axle standards - have enquiry with both bike and axle manufacturer so hopefully have a clearer view soon...do wish bike and thru axle spec sheets would more clearly label these as it would avoid mistakes in the future

The attitude of frame and fork manufacturers seems to be that nobody will ever lose or break a through bolt between original purchase and the heat death of the universe.

  • Haha. Amen.

Will these XT skewers fit a standard rim brake road bike? (Mainly in terms of width of rear skewer?)

  • Will these XT skewers fit a standard rim brake road bike?

They usually have enough thread length to allow the nut to screw down to 130mm, but that does leave 5mm of rod poking out to snag stuff including you. Getting skewered by a QR isn't nice, so you need to cut off the excess. All seems like a lot of bother when Ultegra ones are designed for the job and readily available.

  • Yeh fair point, these just happen to be brand new, black and the right price, I’ll get some ultegra ones though, cheers!

  • Forum approved wheel builder for posh stuff?

    Enve 7.8 on carbon hubs...

    (Not for me sadly)

  • Judith of Stayer has to be worth a shout, I’m sure there are many others and people with better first hand experience than myself though.

Edit- don’t actually know if she builds with other people’s parts, but for clarity I’ve just picked up a pair of stayer wheels (albeit second hand) and they are exquisite, and I’ve heard very good things about their wheels generally.

  • @broken_777

    Edit: Zing!

  • Arup Sen in Sydenham. I think he's also on here.

  • Can’t seem to be able to set up rim brakes.
How do I make the hose align straight with the cable so it doesn’t rub at an angle?

  • Since there's obviously no tension in the cable, why aren't isn't the brake springing open?

  • Do you think it's a tension issue? because there's currently enough tension for the brake to operate properly

  • is that noodle the ‘correct’ angle for the front brake?

  • that is what I'm wondering and I'm thinking it isn't, considering how it appears to be pushed downwards...

  • Butter in coffee can get the fuck out

    It works.

In the same way that milk adds a delicious smooth fatty texture, but without diluting the flavour. Salt is a flavour enhancer.

  • nothing to see here

  • Just checked: Mine’s not much better, but the flexy noodle means a more forgiving exit angle for the inner...
