How do you feel about the Ambrosio forks?
I've got a set (were NOS when I got them) on my Mid 90's Ti, but I'm not 100% sure on whether i should trust them! They seem a little too 'compliant' maybe? -

Thanks, I would need something a little tougher, as Danish roads are covered in very sharp flints... I think Michelin Lithion 2 in "yellow" would work well visually, perform OK and wouldn't break the bank.

My brother acquired them somehow for a good price from working in a bike workshop. I'd guess NOS as they'd never been fitted & not cut down. I feel pretty confident with these, they're much stiffer than the LOOK HSC1 I was using before, they generally feel on par with the steel fork I usually use, but lighter.

Cheers! Rides great.

Looks mean, how do you rate the Hunt wheels?

Cheers! They're pretty decent, great bang for your buck.

Nice, go for the Lithions - they're really cheap right now so worth the experiment, I stuck a pair of them on my Genesis recently & they've been excellent - £15 paid for the pair!
Most importantly they annoy one of my mates who is offended by colourful tyres & spends more on bike tyres than I do on car tyres... they've dulled down slightly now due to riding on crappy Scottish roads so look more yellow than YELLOW, also only come in 23 but after a few rides i can't really tell the difference between the old 25s I had on

I bet you’ve also never called someone’s bike rowdy.

Ha! I have a Genesis 853 too. With the same groupset. And bottle cages. I would usually never go for coloured tyres, but they look almost gumwall, right?

I haven't... but fuck it, I shall!

Yeah, almost like the old 70's amber-wall jobs once they get a bit of road-filth ingrained, guaranteed to turn a once meek bike rowdy (am I doing this right @Tijmen)
That Volare has become my most-ridden bike, love it - one day i'll nab a stainless disc version for peanuts on ebay but until then it'll keep getting dragged out ahead of anything else

Hey guys, really interesting thread and I would like to follow suit and build up an older Basso bike that I have. I'm not really sure how to start though to be honest.
My thoughts are to put a modern Campag groupset on it (I've got an 11 speed Chorus that just needs a cassette) and a set of Campag wheels (buy them second hand from here and hopefully get a decent price if I pick up a model that just runs 23mms).
What I'm less clear on is what I need to do with the headset/stem/seatpost. What should I be looking out for? The bike is a little small for me so a longer stem 120 or so would be good anyway.
Any thoughts on the build or pitfalls I should look out for are v welcome! Thanks

Great bike!
You could either just get a new, longer quill stem, or go for a threadless adapter that fits into the threaded steerer and allow a new ahead / threadless stem. Much discussion on adapters on this thread and in current projects...
Otherwise, fitting new groupset and wheels is fairly straightforward, especially cos your bike isn’t that old. Make sure you have the correct bottom bracket for the new crankset! Good luck!

The other option is to get a 1" threadless headset with external bearings, a 1" threadless carbon fork and fit a modern stem (either 1" or 1 1/8" with a shim).

Not worth the expense on that bike though.

My own MGOOF is a few posts up. I don't think pointless spending should be encouraged.
Edit: I sound like a humourless bore. Soz. Love you all.

I jest, love the KG233!
It could easily have been argued that it wasn't worth spending the money I spent on my Koga Miyata though and I absolutely love riding it!
KG233 in Columbus Brain. Mostly parts I already had, apart from the Nitto stem and bars (thanks bicyclist.cc for sorting me out ). The 4Seasons in 25c did not fit in the front, so I'll need another pair of tyres though.
