• Hey guys, really interesting thread and I would like to follow suit and build up an older Basso bike that I have. I'm not really sure how to start though to be honest.

My thoughts are to put a modern Campag groupset on it (I've got an 11 speed Chorus that just needs a cassette) and a set of Campag wheels (buy them second hand from here and hopefully get a decent price if I pick up a model that just runs 23mms).

What I'm less clear on is what I need to do with the headset/stem/seatpost. What should I be looking out for? The bike is a little small for me so a longer stem 120 or so would be good anyway.

Any thoughts on the build or pitfalls I should look out for are v welcome! Thanks

  • Great bike!

You could either just get a new, longer quill stem, or go for a threadless adapter that fits into the threaded steerer and allow a new ahead / threadless stem. Much discussion on adapters on this thread and in current projects...

Otherwise, fitting new groupset and wheels is fairly straightforward, especially cos your bike isn’t that old. Make sure you have the correct bottom bracket for the new crankset! Good luck!
