  • They may well be too much kit for you - I want something to spend whole nights in, in relative comfort, and has to have a net to keep bugs out (cos Scotland).

    Their new version of the Helium is super lightweight and has designed out some of the previous issues - It's more to the bivvy end of things though.

    Alpine has a net.

    Anyone think I'll get stung for VAT if I order from REI in USA. As its 190gbp there and 300 here from ultra light outdoor.

  • Thought you'd be looking towards the more minimal end of the spectrum, what with you trying to get across continents as quickly as possible.

    I certainly prefer the look of the new ones to the alpine. I've heard that having the zip closing around the top means it has a tendancy to hang in front of your face when not done up.

    The new ones zip down, and so the layers will sit on your lap. The new material is also supposed to be amazingly breathable, so condensation should be less of an issue.
