Ta
When is it?
31st, Midday start. 4 day break now then kind of on a continued wind down, rightly or wrongly.
Those shorter fell races sound painful, the gaps on the ups & downs are much more important too I guess as less chance to close on the flat bits.

A bit of a shock to the system anyway. No excuse not to go balls to the wall when it’s only gonna be 30 mins of effort. I definitely need some higher intensity hill sessions though. Legs were absolute jelly almost instantly.
Looking forward to Coniston on Saturday. Had a good run last year until I missed the last turn and had to climb down and up a ravine to regain the race 🙈
The long, fast and technical descent is mega fun. -

@IdealStandard might like it!
One more polo player doing the Hackney Half can't hurt.
@salmonchild are you in this year?

I can't begin to explain how much I enjoyed watching this. -

^ will watch, ta for posting.
In other news, another view on importance of the Long Run (Ultra training).

Went out for a long steady run at lunchtime, aiming to get 10 miles in.
Managed 2k, when my calf said nope, and I had to walk home.
Up til now, no niggles, and no hint that anything was wrong, and I wasn't putting in any particular effort.
Bugger.

Going back a few pages for the 86 last year I think I did 14 gels and five batches of SIS Go powder over thirteen hours. Wouldn't want to do any more.

Probably, unfortunately.
It looks like it's a repeat of an injury from 3ish years ago, and I'm desperately trying to remember what the physio did to fix it (although I do remember that it's all caused by a very old back injury)
Physio booked for next week

It's the week of the Leeds half now and my knee is still off, told my partner today that it's worth mentally preparing for me to DNS.
I think I mis-self-diagnosed (surprise surprise) and it hasn't been ITB (this was based on past issues in cycling and tightness down my hip and side of thigh during running) but the numb sensation below my kneecap and around it a little suggests patellofemoral pain syndrome?
Very gentle, very short test run tonight but I'm not feeling optimistic. I think I could get round, but fuck injuring myself at the start of summer when I could just not run -

Alright: so I've not been running very much this year. Longest run last year was 14k. Someone asked me to run a 10 miler with him at the end of june. Which gives me 7/8 weeks to prepare. I can run a 10k but haven't in a while. Latest runs are all 5.5 / 6 k. If I add 10% to my weekly mileage I could manage to do it. Any reason not to? Just aiming to finish it, not really looking for a decent time.

Go for it!

Test run was a mild success, DNS avoided. Let's see about DNF.
-
• #20590
Ah, hope you can get through it, dnf or dns if necessary, it's far enough to cause longer to fix problems otherwise.

• #20591
In short, should be ok.

I got a 3rd out of 49 yesterday on about 9 km forest race, that was quite satisfying,

Podium Pic?
I went to a festival no plans to run, arrived in the dark, realised camping neighbour was a clubmate next morning so ran up a hill & along a river with her the next two mornings (in my long-john's & a hoody). #smallworld

First couple of runs since LM. Previous two marathons have seen me avoid running for months.
School running club yesterday, had hoped to avoid it since it was pouring with rain but lack of other parents meant I had to, glad I did despite getting utterly drenched.
Then a cheeky 5k to collect the car from its service/MOT this morning. Started off wondering where I could bail to get public transport but ended up enjoying it (as I knew I would).
Need to keep it going gently rather than effectively starting from scratch late autumn / early winter.

My God, running is so bloody hard. I have my first Olympic triathlon on June 17th and i still have not managed to reach 10km yet. Started running in December and after 5 lots of physio (runners knee /ITB syndrome) I am up to 8kms. I hope I can get to 10k within the next two weeks but man does it fuck me up.
I find a 40 mile cycle easier than a 4 mile run. -

I’ve been running (and not cycling) for ~ 18 months, can run up to half marathon distance pretty much at will. Hopped on the bike the other day, stalled into comedy track stand on hills, literally no quadriceps. Your body will come round eventually!

Marsden Moors 23miler today. Plan had been to hike & bivy there last night & carry full kit but was pretty goosed after a week of early starts & couldn't mojo myself to go. Ran for train almost misjudged it so nicely warmed up already.
Anyone racing this weekend? Have fun if so.

Kintyre Ultra today - 32 miles/3000ft. My first of the genre, and probably last! Too flat for my liking. Quads felt destroyed 13 miles in. Too sunny. Stomach a mess. Finished with a nice steep and vaguely technical section where the fell legs kicked back in and I overtook my brother who had dropped me on the flat. Quids in.
I’ll probably shit out a report when I’m feeling less traumatised.
On rereading - that seems like I had a bad time. It was hard, but a good laugh and nice to try something different.

^ sounds type 2 fun, look forward to your report.
Marsden was a grand day out, lots of views as pictured, recently burnt areas regrowing with big peaty aromas on the breeze.
Good luck to @alialias & partner at Leeds HM today!
