  • here is mine - I must have had one of the last frames Chas made - Columbus Spirit main tubes with Reynolds 953 forks - 6 degree drop on top tube - frame number 140904. Chris King headset, Campag super record and record 11 speed mix, Fizik stem and bars with Antares saddle and seatpost, Vision carbon (tubs) wheelset, Vittoria tyres - rides soooo nice I've relegated my carbon Genesis to my hack

  • woops - before I changed the wheels - these are record hubs on Open Pro rims

  • that's smashing that is

  • Thanks - it always gets nice comments on Sportives - it's a shame my legs can't do it justice

  • Lovely. It's also nice to see a bit of chrome.

  • update to what it looks like now with Vision carbon wheelset and changed to black bar tape and black Antares seat, new (flatter) white bars plus Time carbon bottle cages and gone back to Look pedals - think it looks much better

  • Unfortunately we need to sell our tandem as I can no longer ride it due to hand damage - would this be of interest to anyone here?

And apologies if this is the wrong place to put it. But as it is a Roberts…

  • Stunning tandem

  • Why the columbus sticker on the fork?...stunning bike.

  • 😮 whats the size? (For the stoker as well)

    And how much?

  • Why the columbus sticker on the fork?

    Two stickers isn't highly unusual.

  • What size and how much?

    2nds after @Thrasher please!

  • Sorry guys it is about 21/19 and cost about £2300 new - so would like £1,000 for it excluding any cost of taking our names off as they are sprayed in - my wife used to be Chas's admin so we got special dispensation!

  • Wow, stunning. Worth every penny of £1000 I’d say.

  • Thanks - yeah - good spot -just to go with the Columbus main frame tubes - Chas said that a 953 fork would be better than Columbus equivalent tubing so went for that and it didn't come with a fork badge - had a spare pair of Columbus transfers so used them to finish - still not sure it needs them ? - but can't make my mind up !!

  • I don't believe there is xcr fork blades.
    So no stainless columbus.

  • you're probably right - might be why Chas went for 953 as I wanted straight polished forks like on my Colnago Master

  • 953 are the only stainless fork blades indeed :)

  • Apparently. I’ve never owned a fancy bike like that

  • HSS66 brakes too! The only other ones I have ever come across were also on a Roberts tandem actually.

  • Yes, the rim brakes are Magura - a joke about them is that they were the 1st ones that Chas ever fitted, and of course being a techie, I never trust the 1st one out of the gate - so he promised to get us back from Austria , which is where we were going if anything happened - we rode Vienna - Salsburg - Vienna.

In fact, we ran out of brake blocks before we came down the last pass and so had to take a rather long diversion to avoid a steep descent, learning the German for brake blocks along the way and getting the line in bike shops "oh, that is a lovely tandem" and "no, we do not stock those I am afraid"

  • You'll still find plenty of Dutch and German trekking bikes fitted with Maguras HSxx (and of course trials bikes), but the HS66 levers were very niche and I don't think they were made for very long, so quite collectable as result. A niche added touch on that bike for sure!

  • There is more now...931 which is a tiwainese made steel and also kva from America.
Edit condor appear to doing a bike with stainless xcr fork

  • Okey Dokey - so is anybody interested in buying this before I move on to somewhere else?
