  • On RWGPS I want to upload 3 gpx tracks I’ve downloaded and merge parts from them into a route (from here). Is there a way to do this? I’m having trouble even cutting them down. I’m mainly trying to get a sense for the total distance and climbing involved.

I have the cheaper of the paid subscriptions, do I need the bigger one?

  • You've always been able to do that. The issue is uploading routes to the device when your phone doesn't have any network connection at all.

Don't know if that now works. I suspect it may on the new device as it has a routable map but not on the old ones.

  • The issue is uploading routes to the device when your phone doesn't have any network connection at all.

I think as long as the route can be accessed by the elemnt app (e.g. you've made it in ridewithgps and the elemnt app has some form of network to access the route) you can still Bluetooth it to the device without a WiFi network. This still seems to work on my old elemnt.

  • Cheers, upgrading subscription.

  • If it's just those, send them and I'll do it. Won't take 5 min

  • It's a few quid more and this won't be the last time, thank you though!

Plan is to take the train from Avignon to Isle sur la sorgue, then the greenway out to Apt and return along the Autour du luberon to Robion and back to Isle sur la sorgue

  • I wasn't quite clear there. The issue is in uploading a GPX track (for instance generated offline by OSMAnd when you're lost with no connection) when you don't have a network connection.

  • anyone able to sort the time issues out on this file? https://www.strava.com/activities/2340271209

if so dm and i'll send the origional and merged file.

  • 1030 screen redraw is slower than the 1000 which makes it fucking annoying when loading a new route while riding or while racing around the Netherlands with all the tiny bike path chopping and changing.

  • I just keep piece of paper towel to wipe it dry if I need to use it much. Problem solved.

  • 1030 is more annoying than the 1000 with its shitty slow screen drawing times. You'll load a new route and it'll take 10min to load while not updating the map screen. It got my through RATN but the 1000 also worked pretty well for 2xTABR 3xTCR save for the time it got water in the SD slot and took 2 days to dry out.

  • Also I reckon the screen contrast is better on the 1000 compared to the 1030 which appears a bit washed out.

  • So they are all equally shit.

I used a 1030 for tcr 6 and had no issue. Guess I got lucky.

  • I'm still no closer to deciding whether to Garmin 530 or wahoo roam for my next computer, but definitely need to do something soon as my old Elemnt's battery is gone - it ran out before I did on a 200k Sunday ride.

Garmin has more features (+mount options) but shitter menu and more chance of issues, is that about the size of it?

  • Have you been in contact with Wahoo about it? I'd hope that they may offer you a discount if the issue is a deteriorating battery that can't be replaced.

  • Not yet, I wasn't sure how worthwhile that was since it's 3 years old but I guess no harm in trying.

  • Depends how often you load a route or do a recalculation. The 1030 at least has a more sensible USB location.

  • 3yrs old isn't that old. I still use a Garmin 800 I got in maybe 2011 that has more battery life than that.

  • I agree it should work, just assumed they'd be awkward since it exceeds typical warranty periods!

    Still, worth a shout eh

  • Deffo. Even if it's a discounted new one it's worth asking. 3yr isn't long enough for a battery to be failing.

  • Gah, sorry, completely forgot about looking at that skinny.

  • Dont sweat it.
Dont worry now. I'll just stick with what I have, it's fine.

    Cheers

  • Wahoo don't offer a discount on a replacement (or at least haven't yet) but would replace the battery for £35.

Seems a decent enough option, am finding out how quick / easy that would be to arrange.
