Partly yes. It's hardly a new point of view. For example, there have been quite a few Lib Dem councillors on the radio over the last few days saying leave voters voted for them because at least they knew what they stood for. I think motivations in this particular election are complex.

The nature of these media storms is that vested interests start piling in and the gammon love a bit of presumed leftie double-standards. It's true you can be neglectfully racist.

My thinking is that for statements that are very much open to interpretation first time offenders should get the benefit of the doubt. A three strikes and you're out rule perhaps?
