  • Another question. What range of torque wrench(es) do most folk have for the higher numbers?

    I've got a 2-24Nm wrench for bicycle stuff. But my Triumph has some bigger ones, a look on this guide shows high-low of 5Nm - 132Nm, but as some of those top ones are swing arms I did some sums and came up with;

    Average 31 Nm
    Mode 10 Nm

...which didn't help me decide what range higher Nm wrench I should be looking at.

  • Rear wheel/axle will be the 132 so required if you need to simply adjust your chain tension

  • Anyone have any experience of real world riding of the bmw f800s.
Took one for a test ride ages ago, and enjoyed it. And since the dream of finding a cheap Ducati sport classic has died looking at alternatives.

  • Talking of Ducatis, if I squint, I could almost be tempted by this

  • Fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. Best reason to own that bike is you don't see it when you're sat on it. etc. etc. :)

  • I actually don't hate them at all! They're definitely somewhat aesthetically challenging but you can't accuse them of being dull or boring. Silly good value for money too.

Same could be said about 749...

  • They ARE ugly - insanely competent bikes though. I think that's the model I had a go on - a genuine do everything machine. Didn't expect to say that about a Duchess.

749/999 especially in R trim look the nuts in the flesh. Madly underrated.

  • @Soul have a safe and dry journey. Quick way or the fun way?

@PhilDAS @Jung They're well underrated. It was a conflicting time for Ducati I guess, so people always judged it too harshly; to be fair, the new one ain't exactly the model of elegance either.

I like these and the 1100 are supposed to be a lot of fun and pretty fucking rapid. All the issues were solved from the lower powered one. I totally would. I reckon they might become collectors at some point.

  • Arrived a couple of hours ago... 800 miles in a day.

Quick way is the only way to get here if I'm doing it in a day. Back again on Monday.

  • Urgh. Done that a few times, it's a SLOOOOOG. Your bike definitely looks a bit more comfy at least!

  • Pffft. That sounds like a hell of a mission.
Saying that, It sounds awful considering people don't even like doing that in a car, but I've never regretted doing a journey on two wheels, even if it was utterly shattering.

@Jung One of the reasons I want an all day bike.

  • A long day for sure.

Wife needed the car this weekend otherwise I would probably have driven. I'm only down here to help the parents out with some house stuff for a long weekend.

If I had more time to get here and more time to spend whilst I was here, the bike would be the obvious choice.

  • Had a meeting out near Warminster which meant and early start but finishes around 2pm. I took the scenic route back home which included some bye ways off Salisbury plain, Stockbidge, Winchester and finally back to London village
    Recommend B390, A360, A30 and even A31
Best of all, work were paying me to ride my bike.

  • That is the most shocking TT video I have ever seen. Anyone who hasn’t been to the IoM note - the roads are excellent - beyond compare to anywhere I have ever been. They also have Shellgrip or similar on some sections. You would not know this watching the video.
    Rutter is an animal!

  • Absolutely grim how the speedo disappears at like 180 and he’s still going round turns.
Completely unsurprising how many deaths there have been over the years when riders are pushing it to the limits like that. Mental

  • I’ve done 180 mph on Hailwood Rise - two bikes passed me like I was stopped! No idea what they were. Lol I was occupied watching a very thin slip of tarmac

  • Completely unsurprising how many deaths there have been over the years when riders are pushing it to the limits like that.

That has usually been sidecar outfits. They're much harder to ride around the island, and there's more to go wrong, the results of which are too often catastrophic.

  • Rear end looking a lot more purposeful

  • Must be a danger that speeds like that become a target when you're riding those roads. I've followed the riders view cams of the TT as they've improved over the last 10 years, that's as close as I'll ever come to riding like that!

  • One thing that bike wasn't lacking, purposeful looks. It looks like a lot of fun.

  • Thanks, looking forward to a 100 miles time when they're more worn in.

  • Tremendous amount of skill and luck!
Normal road riding needs some luck too.

  • The closest comparison I can make is freesolo climbing it's just all or nothing stuff but it's like a religion to those who do it!
