  • I picked up a Vitus 979 for cheap with a cracked seat-post clamp. Does anybody have a recommendation for this better than my LBSs "cut it in half and turn it into a lamp". It's a beautiful lightweight frame and I'd love to have some fun with it, I'm tempted to just glue a seat-post in there and see how it holds.

If you do your prep right, it should hold as well as the rest of the joints on a 979 🙂
Put a clamp round the seat post resting on top of the seat lug to mitigate the axial load and you should be fine. The adjustable solution might be an expanding/quill type seat post, but that could quickly turn into one of those projects whose cost is out of all proportion to its benefit.

  • Drilling a small hole at the apex of the crack will prevent it from cracking any further. Consider it before glueing that seat post in.
