anyone interested in a pair of Rogers LS7T speakers?
mine come from a BBC Radio technician who took them with him when he retired...these were made custom to the BBC's spec for outside broadcast monitoring!
fantastic speakers for home use, lovely sound and easy to drive

The WAF with the Elac’s was incredibly low understandably. I was told to send them back, so I’ve ordered some Dali Oberon 1’s instead. A much better size for the room and probably far better. I used to have some Dali Lektor’s close to a decade ago and they were fantastic. Only problem with European speakers is that they’re expensive over here. £349 vs $549.... but... they’re small and that’s the primary requirement. Excited.

While on the topic of getting a library again. Does anyone know if Tidal is chromecast audio capable? Or the other high fidelity music services?

I have some inherited Ruark Sabre speakers connected to a Tangent Ampster amp. At the moment they sit on the floor and my partner has vetoed stands. If I get some heavy tiles/slabs and some feet for the speakers and plinth am I likely to eek a little more definition out of the sound? They sound a little woolly compared to what I remember they are capable of. I expect I’m looking for marginal gains here as their position isn’t great in the room and looking for a cheaper DIY solution. Thanks

You want to get the tweeters at ear level. A nice mid century sideboard or shelf might be more acceptable. Stick the speakers with Blu tack and make the sideboard as heavy as possible.

you can also get mini stands which angle the speakers up, some are quite pretty

I dont have the physical space to upgrade to a proper amplifier, and i have a schiit phono for my turntable anyway

Has anyone successfully improved the dialogue clarity from their TV? Would love to know what kit you're using. At the moment I'm using Monitor Audio Bronze 2 speakers with a Marantz stereo amp for TV audio and music, but I'm having to use subtitles a lot because the dialogue is difficult to distinguish over background noise. I'm looking at buying a different amp, or more likely a dedicated AV receiver, and would swap speakers too if it helped.

Yeah, I mean. I've done a bucket load of research in the last few days. @rogan If you can stretch to B&W 607's at £399, get them. Obviously if you like the way they sound that is. They're really pretty. I listened to them and they were fantastic. Using a basic Rotel amp>USB>Tidal HiFi on my phone.

Second hand stuff is obviously worth a shout too. Fortunately, US sites are willing to accept returns to earn your business, so I'm just buying stuff to then potentially return it. Though, the Oberon's look pretty great from my partner's approval factor, size requirements and it helps that I like the Dali house sound.

What has become very clear is that, even though most sub $1000 speakers are made in China, buying speakers from North American brands in the U.S. is far cheaper than European brands and buying European brands in the UK is much cheaper than North American brands.

Audioengine HD5+ or HD3. Kanto YU4/YU6 depending on space. The only issue with a smaller box is you're obviously going to miss the lower frequencies. Most things I've read recommend some kind of sub with these smaller powered speakers if using for living room/music usage rather than just PC use.

If you already have the Schiit and amplification, why not passive? Most powered speakers in the £400 have a phono-amp built in, meaning your Schiit is redundant.

fwiw when I was looking for a decent set of pc speakers the Audioengine HD5+ did seem like one of the best all round options.

I sympathise on space. All hi-fi stuff is massive, which used to be fine for me at uni etc. but less so in house shares and now. So often even bookshelves seem pointless when they're not actually that small and require stands with the same footprint as floorstanders and are meant to sit a couple of meters from the walls.

The main requirement was that they be white. The grills on the Dali's help, too.

yeah the Dalis do look good - the wood is probably my fav. But it's the covers that really set them off.

These however, are something only an owner could love...

Anyway it's all moot for me until we either move somewhere else, get a massive extension or I tidy up my outhouse and put something in there.

tbh even with a big extension speakers would get vetoed as I still managed to get a withering look for setting up my Bose cubes (about the most unobtrusive non-built-in speakers possible).

I like 'em with the grills on.

Can't wait till I live somewhere big enough for floorstanders.....
