Fuck me man that's an ugly selection.
No wonder your other half likes the dalis!
fwiw when I was looking for a decent set of pc speakers the Audioengine HD5+ did seem like one of the best all round options.
I sympathise on space. All hi-fi stuff is massive, which used to be fine for me at uni etc. but less so in house shares and now. So often even bookshelves seem pointless when they're not actually that small and require stands with the same footprint as floorstanders and are meant to sit a couple of meters from the walls.
Another option is Edifier. If I had the space, I'd be very tempted to go for these. Just to give them a go. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Edifier-S1000DB-Audiophile-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B01CDIS6M0/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_3?keywords=edifier+s1000&qid=1556891219&s=gateway&sr=8-3-fkmrnull
There's the S2000's too but stock in the UK seems unreliable:

Or these Swan's.

The latter currently have £89 off once you add to Checkout. Cracking deal.
