  • Recent addition, starting to really like this now

  • Gone up to 2"/50c on my beater

  • Nice ! How do they roll ? I'm thinking going the same way on mine.

  • I've moved up to 2.35. They roll good. Someone called the bike a 'chelsea tractor' though the other day so I'll have to get rid of it from shame.

  • I had 40c on before and beyond a smoother ride I couldn't tell the difference

  • Would love to be able to fit them but it may be too tight.

  • 40c g-one ? I'm happy with my resolute but this g-one speed are tempting me especially in the bigs sizes (2", 2.35")

  • ya, I wish they did the all-round in 2" though

  • wow love this !!
it remember me my vigorelli !

  • I have the is to post mount adaptors bit how the hell do I tell which is which

  • They look like the same thing

  • edit: is one for 160mm and the other for 140mm?

  • Is exactly why I went for it! Similar looking/spec as the Vigo, is Columbus, has tapered fork. This one however will fit a 30c with short drop on the front and clears 35c on the back! And it was cheaper...

Going to get "creative" with the paint as it'll need locking up outside at times (not with carbons!)

  • Bit of a dredge but do you have more info about the Trek? Is this an x-caliber 8? Did you do lots of upgrades? I'm thinking about buying a second hand one instead of spending money upgrading my 26". Would you recommend? Cheers

  • I picked up a Vitus 979 for cheap with a cracked seat-post clamp. Does anybody have a recommendation for this better than my LBSs "cut it in half and turn it into a lamp". It's a beautiful lightweight frame and I'd love to have some fun with it, I'm tempted to just glue a seat-post in there and see how it holds.

  • Oh and just peeking in up there is a Concorde Prelude. It's got a dent in the seat tube so I was going to build it up cheap but I've been told that with the colouring and the race number boss it's a PDM bike. Any chance this thing has some history or am I safe to go wild on it?

  • I'm tempted to just glue a seat-post in there and see how it holds.

If you do your prep right, it should hold as well as the rest of the joints on a 979 🙂
Put a clamp round the seat post resting on top of the seat lug to mitigate the axial load and you should be fine. The adjustable solution might be an expanding/quill type seat post, but that could quickly turn into one of those projects whose cost is out of all proportion to its benefit.

  • It's good to get another vote on keeping it and gluing it. Thanks!

  • +1 on an expander seatpost (25mm diameter btw) for Vitus 979's. Much easier on the mind than the usual grub screw or in this case somehow bodged seat clamp.

  • Drilling a small hole at the apex of the crack will prevent it from cracking any further. Consider it before glueing that seat post in.

  • a small hole at the apex of the crack will prevent it from cracking any further

It's already too far gone to be used for it's intended purpose. If the crack fulfils its destiny and the ear falls off, the main effect will be a slightly lighter bike and a new nickname for the bike of "Vincent"

  • Yeah like. @mdcc_tester said it's already too far gone.

I love the idea of an expanding seat-post but they're all 3–5 times what I paid for the frameset itself, so glue is the frontrunner right now.

  • I have bodged a normal seat post expandable with a steerer expander plugs and some work.
It’s a bit cumbersome to use, but it works.
I can elaborate at some point, but I am a bit busy these days so allow some time. The main part is you need to start with a seat post with an open top if you know what I mean.

  • Find a really long quill stem and take the bolt and expander out of it. Then drill a hole in the top of your cheap seatpost of choice and slot it or slice it at an angle at the bottom depending on the type of expander. And hey presto, you have an expander seatpost and some power tools you'll never need again.

  • Still my fave bike.

Now has spesh turbo tyres on for maximum speed (Of 24/5mph)
