  • On my townie I get a load squarking noise when I stand up and pedal with the left pedal hard, but not when I pedal hard with my right pedal. It feels like the noise/vibration is coming from the rear hub. Any ideas?

  • Honestly if it depends on which pedal you're putting the power through, I'd suspect the pedals first. Are you sure there isn't too much play on the left pedal axle? Also, I had something similar once where it turned out to be the bottom bracket, so it might be worth checking that too.

  • Loose crank arm bolt?

  • is this a creaky-squark?

I had a similar thing to a beater-y, rattlecanned 531 frame, except it would often happen when I mashed the pedals sitting down too: Checked the bottom bracket, the pedal spindles and threads, crank arms, saddle rails, rear spokes &c &c

Turned out to be a seat stay that had pinged off the seat tube, but couldn’t be seen with the naked eye when the bike was stationary.
