• MG looks great Richie.

Revs, peak power, redlines and rev limiters:

We need to order valve springs, which will be specific to our requirements.

Therefore we need to establish what those requirements are.

We need the valve springs to have enough force to cope with revs up to, and beyond peak power - but how far beyond?

We need to pull through peak power rpm as it would be crazy to hit the limiter just as you make peak power, and also it will help to drop us back into the power band when changing gear.

So for e.g. if we make peak power at 7,800, should we have redline from 8,200 onward, then soft rev-limit at 8,400 and hard rev cut (fuel/spark) at 8,800?

    What's reasonable?

The issue here being that the higher the force of the spring the more impact it'll have on the engine during the normal/expected operating rev-range, so by dropping the distance we go past peak power we make everything better below that point.

  • Not being pedantic but isn't your engine builder going to best placed to say what is reasonable to build to based on what you've requested from the engine?
