Bread knives do my head in.
I have a nice(ish) Damascus one that Lakeland do. When I bought it, it was insanely sharp - I could cut 2mm thick melba toast with no issues.
But, how in the name of fiery fuck does one sharpen a bread knife? It is now no better than a bog standard and I have no idea of how to sharpen it up.

Is it serrated on both sides?
-
• #2305
If the bevel is on one side you sharpen it with the other side flat on the stone.

I know it’s not porn-y but what’s the best price you can get a morakniv in London? I’ve got a friend who left his camping knife at home (in the US) and is about to cycle from London to Vienna.

My mum has a superstition about giving a knife as a gift. The superstition says that if you give a knife as a gift it will sever your friendship. The way round this is to buy the gift, by giving a penny in return for the knife.
She believes this so much that when I gave her an old kitchen knife recently and she forgot to give me a penny, there was a penny in an envelope in first class post the next day.

Also don't walk under any ladders carrying a black cat etc

That's fine as long as you walk backwards

Blenheim Forge make nice knives (I have their Santoku), does anyone know if they hold any stock? I’d like to get my brother one for his birthday, and it’s this coming weekend- the Blenheim site says 2-3 weeks from order.

I do that too; not because I believe anything bad will happen, but because I quite like the tradition. I usually just put a penny in the package that the receiver can give me straight back /csb.

I just requested nominal payment & received this in lieu of the Opinel I bought my Partner for Xmas, thanks folks.

I quite like the tradition too.

I have never heard of this tradition and/or superstition before, I shall now start gifting sharp things to people I dislike.

My dad does the same. Shoes too.

Got my machete back.
It's a medium size which is nice to use without being too long. Even pretty blunt it managed to tidy up a few edges of the lawn
I had the handle covered with leather when I got it in Bolivia. The other side is pretty fucked, but until its in the way I'll leave it.
It's pretty rusty after I lent it to mate who lent it to a mate. Between them they managed to store it wet inside the sheath.
Thinking a soak in cheap coke should get most of it. Don't think I've got a whetstone and I doubt it will fit in my aliexpress lansky, so sharpening is to be worked out.

I keep one of these in the garden shed for outdoor tools, so will have a crack with that first.

Now cleaned up a bit.
Still needs some work to get it sharp, but I'm able to tidy up the grass with it. Probably also need to sort out a proper cane to use with it to make sure I don't take my leg off once it is sharp.

Can anyone recommend me a Chinese cleaver?
The Shun is too expensive for something I might not use loads, but still would like something with decent steel.

• #2321
Meat cleavers are something you can still buy on Ebay, I'd look for a nice vintage one if I was after one.
-
• #2322
Not after a meat cleaver, after the thinner Chinese Cleaver, but perhaps they can be found on eBay if they are under than category.

The IKEA cleaver is made in China... Ticks all the boxes... I adore mine, very happy with it and cheap as chips...

I lust after one of these, but need to find one with a left handed handle.
