For fans of Parkrun...

I went through 400 in 61s thinking, ‘well this is all a bit comfortable’, but then 100m later whatever energy system I’d been using shutdown and I was left to endure 300 of the most spasmodic metres I’ve ever run in my life, positive splitting like no-one’s business to finish in 2:10. Never have I felt so much like a 400m runner. My son nailed his pacing like a boss, the U13 cunt. (proud dad)
Hahaha. Good reading.

goes to Dulwich Runners page.
Sees track sessions.
Interest piqued.
Finds out they're on at a time I can't attend.
Weeps. -

Hope you've got your loo roll handy more like...

I always found track sessions easier on my tod - Just you & a stopwatch.
My local university doesn't seem to mind people just turning up & running on the track, which is nice.
(In return, I have a different pair of shoes for running there, than the ones I use on the tartan surface. And I keep off the inside lane.)

Anyway.
So I'm back running with a bot more focus again, after 3ish years of meh running.
I am amazingly unfit, my knee hurts, I don't like my shoes, I lost my Garmin, and I'm slow.
Still. All positive from here on in.
Eden Project half marathon in the calendar in October, maybe a warm-up half in September. I may even go to a few Park Runs.
And Innov-8 seem to be making road shoes again, which is nice.
But £95 can >>>>>>>>
I have my eye on some Merrell Vapor Glove 3s instead.

I might try this on Sunday. It could be interesting. There definitely won't be much need to carb load in the build up.

Do it, what could go wrong?!

Yorkshire 3 peaks tomorrow, felt shit for the last 2 weeks. Going to be battling the cut off times if recent form is anything to go by.
It’s going to be wet and windy all day and then I’m driving straight to the lakes, and hiking into a bothy with all my gear to meet some mates. I almost don’t want to go to bed because it’s going to be a long day from the moment I wake up, or so it feels like.

Ouch. Good luck & stay safe out there.

On the positive side, I’m more likely to beat my mate in poor weather. She’s trained hard for this while I’ve been all over the shop, and although She definitely deserves to beat me, I’m a lot more resilient in poor weather.
Yes I am a bad sport but I wasn’t bothered until she was set on beating me 🙈

Good luck @nefarious. I'd love to do that race one day.
If anyone wants to track me tomorrow I'm 1388

When I got my pb of 3.55hrs in 2015 I actually had 14 energy gels. I was ok until we were driving home and then a very urgent need to pull into the south mimms services arose.
I ran the Stratford upon Avon marathon today as I didn't get into London this year. Marathons are meant to get easier as you age but the older you get the less time you have to train I find, as life can just get so busy.
I basically did half the training I should have done and I guess I should be happy with 4hr 35 today but it seems a long way off where I was 4/5 years ago.

beat my mate
Did you?

Looks like those 3 did the trick, are you happy with time?

Any physio recommendations in hackney? Want to check in with someone about some recurring pains and tightness during training.
I don’t have much dollar, so ideally someone who can give me a once over and advice rather than recurring massage type jobby.
My body is very confused by my brain’s sudden lack of patience for long running and resultant switch to sprint training. It’s amazing how quickly one mindset can usurp another. If only the physiological were as instantly malleable as the psychological.
I was satisfied with a big PB in the Vitality Half despite the wind (1:21), but by the time I ran the Vicky Park 5 miler about a month later, the only thing I enjoyed was the sprint finish for a 28:52.
Between those two camps, my son and I entered our respective first 800m races, though grading meant the inevitable inter-generational showdown will have to wait. 800m, then. What a fucking cruel race that is. (proud dad)
He’s all set for the London Mini Marathon next week. I’ve got to get my shit together for the Middlesex Champs 200 & 400 and then a 10k that counts towards some intra-club competition. I need to stop entering races 3 months in advance.
Well done/good luck to all spring marathoners!
