Without stating th obvious, literally check every nut and bolt.
Common bits to miss;
Crank bolts to 30nm
Chainring bolts, especially backing one
Seat clamp won’t be tight enough
Brakes not set properly - pads up, barrel adjusters in, cables stretched, pulled through and trimmed
Stop disc not tightened
Under tensioner axle nut not tightened
2 speed cable grub screw anchorage not quite tight enough
8mm nut on 3 speed cable into indicator chain
Indicator chain lock not backed off
Handlebar catch 6mm bolt loose
Limit screws, especially in 16t not in enough so idler wheels rub DR
Right pedal not tightened - probably a lack of grease too
The headset will be close to dry but also worth killing and replacing with sealed bearing
Front hub is pretty low Q, kill and replaceI think that covers for the most part my experience of places like Evans. - unless you get lucky, some stores I think little of have great mechanics, it’s hit an miss!

Ha, thanks! Looks like I'll have my work cut out... Is there a dealer manual or anything available that gives setup procedures, torque values etc. for the various bits?
Regarding the headset, I'm guessing you have to remove the stem in order to back it off enough to get a grease gun in? I might leave that to a pro...
My B-i-L has bought a Brompton from Cycle Republic in Brum, and as the family's bike person has asked me to take a look. As he ordered a two-tone paint job I presume it's come as a special order. Is there anything that needs special attention when he picks it up that the shop might have missed in prepping the bike to go out? I know at one time the wheels weren't stress-relieved at the factory, but is there anything that needs greasing/anti-seizing/checking for tightness etc.?
