  • Talking of R/F forks anyone know of a caliper road fork that's

    365-370 a-t-c
    40-45mm rake
    Can be straight or tapered
BUT... would like clearance for at least 32c

I have a tapered Columbus Fel that's 365 a-t-c, 45mm rake and clears a 28c. But it's probably to nice for my needs and i'd rather have something with more tyre clearance if it exists (without slackening the front end too much).

Or is 32c unrealistic with the fork length?

  • (without slackening the front end too much)

Changing from a tapered fork in an EC44/40 lower to straight fork in a ZS44/30 lower gains you about 10mm axle to crown with no change in steering geometry

Or is 32c unrealistic with the fork length?

It's unrealistic with a 365mm fork, and it's also unrealistic with a caliper brake drop of <49mm. To fit a 700×32C with the minimum safe clearance needs over 350mm from axle to the underside of the crown. With a 375mm fork and a brake drop <57mm, it's possible.

  • Thanks, what would you say is a minimum safe distance for road and light off road riding? The Columbus Fel fork is surprisingly gappy for a 365mm fork. I tried it with a short drop Sram Rival and a standard drop TRP and both cleared a badly seated 30c G-one speed but it was fairly tight. The TRP would need a small amount of filing on the arms to get the pads centred but it's not far off (Sram is off another bike).
