Has anyone got a recommended service for sending a complete bike overseas?

Whereabouts in the world are we talking?

Check transglobalexpress, they have the best quotes for overseas generally. box size 100x30x70 is perfect. Once you go over 100cm in length prices start getting crazy

Shiply.com can be good if you're flexible on dates.

Direct Courier Solutions are solid if you’re sticking to the EU

whatever you do, do NOT use Eurosender. Totally inept/probably fraudulent, advertise service times and dimensions that bear no resemblance to the courier's actual limits/restrictions.
If EU then you will be best served looking at Parcelmonkey etc for cheapest services. If you can get the max. box length less than 120cm long and 90cm high it'll be much cheaper.
World-wide and it's a bit harder. I've used P4D's export and import services a few times as they act as a broker and they're pretty good so far.

I have just checked Parcel2Go for France -> Edinburgh (for @bazschmaz 's friend) and it comes to £75 insured to £350.
Size of the box is the main issue, if you can have the combined measurements sub 200cm, then it will be cheaper but you will likely need to remove the forks.
Cheers

I use two websites, ipostparcels.com (owned by DHL) and senditnow.com (owned by Royal Mail/Parcelforce) for EU postage of bikes. I concur with others, box size is important. That said, I've been told that these couriers rarely double check measures.

Thanks man. The only time I posted a bike internationally was probably 8 or so years ago and remember being well over on the length dimension of the box and assuming it would incur some penalty but it didn't. Can't remember who that was with though and don't seem to have a record of it on any emails.

The only time I've had issues with dimensions is from one post office. I now always use parcelforce directly and drop off at the depot. They've never had an issue with even huge bike boxes (which exceed the volume allowed).
