A friend often refers to Milton Keynes as 'the armpit of Great Britain'
-
• #27703
Whilst I'm no MK fan, I've been to far worse.

Then again there are worse body parts to be likened to than the armpit.

I particularly dislike the frenulum.

Isn't the season ticket from out that way on the high speed train like 500 quid a month ? A bloke at work comes in from Ramsgate or Margate , I can't remember which, and he said it was 600 quid a month into kings cross.
Fuck that.

Grew up in Dunstable/Luton area, I never appreciated how much beautiful countryside was so close by until I was old enough that I'd moved away for uni etc anyway by then was a bit late.
Now I live in Wales. The afro barbers are significantly better in Luton I'll give it that.

It's a public holiday today, they're back tomorrow to pour the concrete and set the stumps... The house has moved a bit, toilet and back doors aren't closing properly so I'll have to get a sander and file out today and do a bit of tweaking...
-
• #27716
Prob best to wait until everything has been finished and the concrete has set? Could move again maybe?
-
• #27717
Nah, the jacks are in and the house is level right now... One back corner of the house has come up around 7mm, it's obviously been like that for a long time because the door frame has moved and neither of the back doors are locking at the moment... I'll be fixing up my Dremel and sorting that out tomorrow...
Apart from the toilet all the other doors are absolutely fine... Should be an easy fix...

Yeah it’s 6k a year near enough. I get a hefty discount as I work on the Railway. Not sure it would have been as workable without it. Worth bearing in mind that even a weekly ticket is only cheaper if you go in for more than three days. Two days and it’s cheaper to buy returns on the day at £57 a pop. Ouch.

Was halfway through drilling out new latch holes in the door frame when one of the tradies doing the stumps told me that the back of the house would drop 5mm-10mm on Monday when they pull out the jacks and let the house rest on the new stumps... So I stopped what I was doing...
Fucker is we we're supposed to be going out to the see Lori's grandma tomorrow, but we can't really leave the house with no way of locking our back doors... Oh well, it'll all be fine on Monday... Concrete pour happened today, pics to follow...

• #27723
So these are our new stumps, not quite finished yet... They're just very expensive stilts... I think they're pretty ugly compared to the old concrete pillar type we had before... Oh well...

There are plenty of planning applications that have been submitted in London for very large scale residential developments.
This as an example, this stadium will be tied up to major resi development to make it viable:
https://www.lutontoday.co.uk/sport/football/luton-town/confirmed-luton-town-receive-planning-permission-for-newlands-park-1-8844158
They are also working on major airport improvements including direct public transport connections to/from London.
It is happening.
