Recommend a short break in Sussex / Kent

  • Im after suggestions please.

Couple of nights away, me mrs and 2yr old.

    Sussex or Kent.

Self catering, quiet, nice short walk and pleasant scenery.

    Ta

  • Leeds castle Clamping? Not sure how quiet unless midweek.

  • Airbnb in Margate then cycle the viking cycle route down the coast.
    Thanet has some great views.

Or try the isle of Sheppy for its contrasts. Some local fishermen, views of power stations and a nature reserve. Stay in Queensborough, 4 pubs in such a little village. The admiral's Arm is excellent

    Cycle along the sea wall.
(If you cycle with your 2 year old?)

  • Whitstable is nice for a couple of days. You can walk / ride to Canterbury along the old railway line if that’s your bag.

  • Margate is good for a day (really enjoyed Turner gallery when i was there recently) or so and you've got the rest of the Kent coast around the corner. Rail service from St Pancras is pretty quick

  • Eastbourne with the walk over seven sisters? Bit unimaginative but it's spectacular

  • Old town in Hastings is always nice and close to Bexhill and Rye. Brighton is less than an hour away if you wanted to.

Folkestone is on the up and has a nice harbour arm and Old town too, Dover is very near as is Canterbury

  • I'll second the Isle of Sheppey and Queenborough, particularly if you want to avoid any hipster vibe. You can walk/cycle most of the sea wall around to Minster beach where you can beachcomb/hunt for fossils when the tide is out.

Also Elmley nature reserve has some lovely 'pods' to stay in surrounded by nature with views across the Swale and walks/bird watching hides.

  • Keep it real and go to Walton on the Naze in Essex. Clacton is just around the corner for some pier based fun. There's a massive new soft play there and loads of things to climb on and off.

Walton has a tower and a beach, off peak is not that busy at all. We went to a mobile home park last May, and all three of our kids loved it. (5, 3 & 3). I thought it was alright because there was a bar next to the evening entertainment and playground
