Either way, it's quite incredible that anyone could do this.

blair is a backward thinking fucking cunt who continues to bring nothing but shame on the Labour Party.

• #56332
It's a bit of a stretch to suggest Blair 'thinks', surely?

They’re at it again....
Can’t bring myself to read about the Sri Lankan incident as most headlines I’ve seen so far do that thing where they distinguish between Westerners and locals.“Tourists believed to be among the dead...” etc

Tony is continuing to do what he has always done: ignoring the problems of capitalism. It’s not the NHS doctor or dentist that he’s talking about, it’s some kind of Johnny Foreigner rocking up and Not Integrating which makes racist people angry? Fuck me, what a twat Blair is.
Why doesn’t Blair blame people for being racist? Because then he’d have to admit that his policies allowed massive inequality to be created, making people more likely to fall into these shitty patterns of thinking. It’s never Blair’s fault.

Tony Blair could have been a model of integration,
instead,
famously had his children shipped across London each day to attend a Catholic school. -

Grim day in Sri Lanka.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/world-asia-48001720Is there a good source of context? Since BBC is reporting it as unexpected.

I am reading in forrin news that it is indeed unexpected.
The gist of it seems to be that while the churches were christian (obviously), the hotels were owned/operated by buddhists. Which leaves muslims as the odd one out. But since Sri Lanka has a tradition of solidarity between muslims and christians in face of a buddhist majority it is unlikely to have been perpetrated by any muslim groups previously active on the island.
So either organised from the outside, for example by IS, or done by a local group that has taken on a completely new ideology and modus operandi. In either case completely unexpected.

This is strange. This morning, on The Guardian’s live feed page there was a quote from some official that said roughly “We had previously received intelligence that there was a possible threat to high profile churches”.
I’m looking at the articles on there now and can’t see any mention of this. I’ll see if I can find it...
-
• #56339
EDIT - Apparently there’s concern that this report is fake news, in order to blame a specific group for the attacks. Same reason they’ve shut down all social media by the looks of it.
Strangely I can’t see this information anywhere in The Guardian’s live feed anymore.
But here it is from another website:

The abuse Greta's getting is unbelievable, Brendon O'Neill wrote a load of old monkey wank about how she reminds him of a puritan then The Spectator joined it yesterday saying her voice was annoying. Various right-wing mouth-breathers like Jon Gaunt pile in and his followers start posting whackjob conspiracy theories:

It's the Venn of climate change deniers v right wing whackjobs. Both groups are furious about Greta before the Soros/Jewish conspiracy fuckwits even turn up.

It's a new angle- the Eurovision conspiracy. Gina G and Jay Aston are trying to ban your holidays.

Yup. From Wikipedia:
Born in Buckinghamshire, Young was brought up in Highgate, North London, and in South Devon. His mother Sasha (1931–1993), daughter of Raisley Stewart Moorsom, a descendant of Admiral Sir Robert Moorsom, who fought at the Battle of Trafalgar, through his son, Vice-Admiral Constantine Richard Moorsom, chairman of the London and North-Western Railway,[10][11] was a BBC Radio producer, artist and writer,[12] and his father was Michael Young (later Baron Young of Dartington), a Labour life peer and pioneering sociologist who coined the word 'meritocracy'.[13] Although entitled to use the style The Hon. Toby Young,[14] he does not.[15]
He seems to be suggesting that if people are born into privilege we should ignore them, so let's do just that.

I'm afraid I can't make any judgement about your post until I know if your mum ever did Eurovision.
