• The one thing they genuinely do better than anyone is the dial furniture. Everything else is up for debate. Spring drive is unique but for a lot of people using a quartz crystal to regulate the escapement basically makes it a quartz watch.

Also their bracelets compare poorly with Swiss brands, especially similarly priced Rolexes.

But they have some really great designs if it’s the sort of thing that connects with you, quite a different philosophy. A lot of space, if that makes any sense.

Definitely check out the dial and hand finishing IRL.

  • Well, yeah. That sort of stuff is them pushing it a bit, because right now they are testing how far they can push it. Traditionally their sweet spot is having vastly better exterior finishing (bracelet excluded) than any Swiss steel watch in the region of £5k. Credor is their brand that traditionally operates at the very high end, not GS.

Grand Seiko is clearly not to everyone’s taste but objectively they are very well made and finished in that £4k-£6k price bracket. It’s when they start getting that bit too ambitious with the pricing & limited editions that it can begin to look a bit questionable.
