  • I've been after something like this for a while & eventually figured out a way of doing it - logging Strava rides on a Google calendar.

Using IFTTT (you might be able to reuse my applet if you're logged in):

    • Create a new applet.
    • Set this to new Strava activity.
    • Set that to new detailed Google calendar entry.
    • Set start time & end time to {{CreatedAt}} (annoyingly there's no ingredient arithmetic, so this has to do).
    • Set name to {{Name}}.
    • Set description to the rest of the other ingredients available. URLs automatically make links so that'd handy.

Pretty handy for me as I use Google calendar to manage a lot of my appointments.

  • Is this future rides?

  • Nay, it's an event-based system & the trigger is new activities being uploaded, so it won't do historical rides.

  • I don't get it, it only puts them in the calendar after they've happened so their utility in the calendar is gone? It's neat though

  • Maybe I'm weird but I respectively put things in my calendar. Just like having a single point of truth to see what I was doing on any one day.

  • respectively

    Retrospectively

  • Yes, thank you. Phone keyboard got the butter of me.

  • Every ride, for the last week, I have tried to upload has failed with the error "tcx corrupted time data".

Strava sends me to a help page for fixing .fit files, my garmin records .tcx files.

Any ideas what is going on?

  • It is possible than your timemap file is corrupt. gmaptz.img.
Perhaps replacing this may help any future errors.
Can you post your tcx file?

  • There's something weird going on with 'gps time' at the minute, my friend has been experiencing it with his huawei phone - might be worth looking into?

  • This was pretty nifty. I attend scheduled football practice Almost every week. It would be nice if I got IFTTT to ask me whether I went or not and then created a manual event in strava for it. It would help assesss training load.

  • How do I replace the gmaptz.img?

This is one of the tcx files that won't upload, "Corrupted time data. More Information." is the error on Strava. About 1 in 10 rides actually upload.

  • First try using the webupdater to see if it offers you a time zone map update if it does then take it.
If it does not then mount the Edge to the computer and delete the following file
Garmin\gmaptz.img (This is the time zone map)
Run the Webupdater after deleting the file and it will reinstall the map for you.

  • Thanks. I have just done this. I will record a ride today and see if it is fixed.

I did manage to upload one of the corrupt .tcx files to Garmin Connect, the error seems to be with the elapsed time?

    Time - 2:07:47

    Moving Time - 1:43:56

    Elapsed Time - 470:12:35

  • Not at home so do not have access to my usual software to examine the file you posted.

  • How realistic are the Strava calorie calculations? They seem a bit high, when compared to, say, Myfitnesspal

  • Probably accurate within the range of -50% to +50%.

  • Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT is really pumping out the miles, they're riding with almost everyone I know.

  • Is it the fate of every form of social media to become so oversaturated with advertising and sponsorship such that it's unbearable?

  • Yes, and the founders and early employees celebrate SweetExit(tm) and then move on to founding the next one.

  • Can that be turned off or is it hardwired?

  • Yes, under settings > Partner Integrations

  • Yes, under settings > Partner Integrations

Do people see it on their own feed? Like, you rode with WAHOO ELeMNT BOlt for every ride?

  • No it's just for other people so they can also buy a sweet Wahoo.

I've just turned mine off as I was also getting annoyed about this the other day but getting everyone in my feed to turn theirs off will be more difficult I suspect.
