  • Uni bezel. Good quality.

I've worn that pretty consistently for 15 years so it's holding up well.

  • GTFO.

    That is gorgeous

  • Got to be bronze/green. I love that watch.

  • Hello, I haven't read through the thread but I have a question about old watches. I have an old omega that was my dad's. I have had it fixed and then broken it twice and I basically can't afford to keep this up, it seems extremely fragile. Anyway, I had the thought I could get it gutted and have the internal parts replaced by some something cheap and reliable. I know it is an expensive watch but I would wear it purely for sentimental reasons, is this possible?

  • What is the watch in question? Would be useful to know what type it is...

A photo would do, if you don't know model number.

  • well i didn't say because I was worried you'll all label me a heretic, it is a 1962 or 3 [edit. that can't be right, maybe 65] seamaster, not a gold one though.

  • My gut feeling is that you've been really unlucky with the repairs. A 1960s seamaster should be solid as fuck after a proper service and repair. Do you know what broke? Who fixed it? Sounds like the work wasn't up to scratch IMO.

In answer to your original question, there is no viable way to swap out the movement for something more reliable or cheaper.

  • Just a heads up to all the desk divers here, in the process of buying a collection from a client that contains amongst others
    2015 Rolex Deepsea
    2015 Rolex Deepsea Deepblue
    2015 Rolex Seadweller 4000
    ? Rolex Submariner ' Hulk'
Omega Speedmaster Apollo 11 45th anniversary
Omega Seamaster 300 'Spectre' limited edition .
Sorry about lack of reference numbers , down to laziness at moment.
Just thought I would fire up here to give people first refusal on the off chance etc.....

  • hmm, thanks, where do you recommend for what would be the third and final repair?

  • Really like this. Reminds me of the JLC ultra thin

But then researching it, the Movt script pisses me off! Just type out the full word lazy gits! It's not that difficult.

  • FAO the Seiko diver fraternity - I don't think I posted these amongst all the other stuff that appeared at Baselworld, but these are the new Seiko Monsters (4th gen I guess, but I'm not 100% sure they're discontinuing the 3rd gen just yet):

A lot of the diehard fans are hating (cyclops, black bezel instead of steel, the movement is downgraded from 6R15 to 4R36, etc) but these are the first Monsters I've liked (well, I kind of liked the recent jade green one). Still 42mm which is a nice size, not too big.

  • @tmevans I agree that you have probably been unlucky with the repairs. Send it to a proper watchmaker.
I had to do similar recently, and was recommended @smackerjack (who I used and was great) and @robadob on here, as well as Alsal on the strand.

  • I ended up sending back the OV1 to Steinhart and getting the 39 vintage explorer Plexi from gnomon. First impressions are the size and proportions are much better for me. The dial is way more gold than in pictures.

I have no.246 out of 300 so there is still a few left. It got here amazingly fast from Singapore and avoided customs fees for once.

It’s a great looking watch to not worry too much about. Hopefully pictures on Friday if I can size the strap in time.

  • Nice were you in the US military?

  • these are the first Monsters I've liked

    +1

There's always been something off about them before... ugly, but not in an attractive way. Sort of like those clown-like hipster work boots. Whereas those look crisp and chunky.

  • Yep. Same. First Monster I'd buy.

  • I agree. Never got my head around the original Monster's but I'd wear one of those.

  • It’s the first Monster I’d wear too, and that’s maybe not the best thing. I liked that the Monster was a bit odd, and that loads of people loved it for its quirkiness even if I didn’t. Seiko does plenty of conservatively-styled divers, no need to make the Monster one of them.

  • Where in central can i see some leather straps?

  • The solar Tuna-ish variants are interesting and there are some nice looking new ones coming this year - best new handset on a Seiko diver for yonks, bit 62MAS-esque.

Plastic outer shroud so should be at the cheaper end of the range but they look nicer than the street series.

  • I think that’s how a lot of people feel about these. They could still drop a silver bezel / orange dial variant and it would be pretty true to the previous generations, just with a slightly more conventional case.
