I read that he acclimatised at an effective 3000m overnight by using a hypobaric device, and when he wasn't in that he was at the actual 1800m of Aguascalientes for at least a couple of weeks.

In which case his power drop-off 'could' be much less than the 10-20% quoted for an rider that hasn't acclimated. It seems to be quite individual how much performance loss occurs. Me for example, I climb just as bloody slow at altitude as I do at the bottom of the mountain ;)
