Smaller and local is the way forward. The bigger the event, the bigger the cost to set up - and the increased likelihood that it's being run for profit. Also, say goodbye to t-shirts and medals if you want cheap.
Parkrun is an anomaly in that it's aimed at getting people exercising and building a community (as I understand it).
Are Runthrough events good, and why are they so expensive?
£26 for a 10k, and you don't even get a t-shirt. Have I been spoiled by Parkrun, or have they just spotted that runners like having their pants pulled down?
