He says he promosed to go have a pancake with Stig Broeckx if he got it <3
-
• #1603
they've got to take 10.291 of travelling off his time, but it says he's done 55.089 km...
He did 55.250 in 1:00:10.291, 55.089 is what you get by interpolating the last lap
Assuming a 16.0 last lap, (1-(10.291/16.0))*250=89

• #1604
Ah, so the 55.089 was the adjusted time, Ta.
This is really going to put cycling on the map in his home country.

Impressive ride, I’ll wait for @xavierdisley ‘s official graph, but his pacing looked spot on.
-
• #1606
Top ride. Well done Mr Campenaerts!
-
• #1607
He requested that. Wanted to ride in silence and not have crowds literally heat up the place. The few people that where there were allowed to cheer him on in the last few minutes only.

Mexico uses the metric system
Ah yes, the hour has 100 minutes there.
-
• #1609
Hot air is thinner though. I remember the velodrome being very warm when Wiggins beat the record.
-
• #1610
Aren't warmer temps supposed to be faster?
-
• #1612
awesome ride, a shame that altitude is a factor in many peoples reckoning though...
-
• #1613
shame that altitude is a factor in many peoples reckoning
How could it be otherwise? He certainly wouldn't have beaten the record if he had been at the London velodrome.
-
• #1614
Ah interesting to know. Thanks
-
• #1615
To a certain degree. It was 29°C now and that is supposed to be ideal. (But I'm just repeating what the commentators said during the attempt :)
-
• #1616
Yeah and Wiggo's record manipulated the velodrome temp to be as favourable as possible, so what? Wiggo could've set his record in Mexico if he wanted.
-
• #1617
Was it really 29 in the Mexico 'drome? Given he can't drink then perhaps he was right to not add crowd heat (if possible). Still don't know why he didn't have some music on, maybe it would upset his rhythm but most science suggests that performance improves when you listen to music you like at a suitable tempo.
-
• #1618
What's that, the fact that physiological performance degrades at altitude? :)
-
• #1619
Here you go, nerds:
https://wattmatters.blog/home/2014/12/wm2-altitude-and-hour-record-part-ii.html"riding at Aguascalientes would provide for between a 2.5% to 4% gain in speed" (acclimated)
ie. "Alex Dowsett rode 52.937km at Manchester earlier this year. At Aguascalientes he could reasonably expect to gain ~3.5% +/-0.5% more speed, or just about precisely what Bradley Wiggins attained in London."

Above 30 degrees is too hot. A journalist that was there said near the end it was 29.1°C.
And Victor didn't want any cheers or music so he could keep his focus and perfectly hear the instructions of his coach. -
• #1621
so what?
So nothing; Vic's level of cheating was signed off by the same UCI who approved Brad's level of cheating, so he got the record fair and square, but half the fun of the hour is that we can all get to Monday morning quarterback every ride. What would Brad have done at Aguascalientes? What would Boardman have done if had both been at altitude and had today's skinsuit rather than the primitive 1990s one?
-
• #1622
Fair point. I'd want Simply the Best from Karate Kid slamming for the last few laps :D
-
• #1623
Would Wiggo have got Boardman's at altitude? London was clearly special for him but I wonder if he might regret not taking Boardman's record (if it were possible).

Are there any good studies of the effectiveness of different types of external stimulation for motivation/performance?
Many years ago I wanted to study this for an undergrad project. I was rowing back then so my idea was to get a load of people to do 2k tests with a range of different stimuli including nothing (alone in a room), music, coxed/coached etc.

Yes. There's been quite a few.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29608999and that's just music. There's loads of others messing with temperature, visuals, fueling, etc.
56.375 is still the old benchmark
