  • Bearing set arrived. These ones are stamped with some specs. Posting them here in case it helps others in this situation find a cheaper alternative.

  • Upper is a common easily available size, this is the TH part (8C-138) for the lower:

It's £21.95 from Windwave and the uppers (TH870) are £13.95

  • My future self thanks you both. My 2009 Spesh Allez frame snapped last year right at the point I was trying to work out WTF the headset bearings were about and then I got an E5 Smartweld as warranty replacement.

  • Hah, you must have experienced the Mindset type which is a weird cup and zone headset in an integrated headset.

  • I feel better about paying £40 for a set then. Although I didn't strictly need the top bearing...

  • Depend how rough it is really.

Even if it's just slightly gritty, replace them or repack them

  • You needed this then?

Actually, think this is the same and sub £10.

  • Thanks a lot for sharing!
My Specialized Allez (2015) lower bearing is very rusty and it feels like it is about time to replace it.
Are the replacement bearings you bought were (are) good?
Do you recommend to buy it?

  • None of them seem to last all that long. New headset standards are rubbish, just like bottom brackets. I never had any problems with old style...

  • They last well enough, it always varies on mechanic, type of riding etc.

  • Again, thanks a lot.

  • If possible, can you please send ma a link to the website you got it from?
    Cheers,
    D.
