I think I read somewhere that the pattern of threads is only cosmetic so not to worry if they get torn etc?
And I don’t care if you think they’re shit or don’t grip or are heavy.

It's not cosmetic, but it's not essential to the pressure retaining structure, it's just a supplementary armour layer to protect the structural threads.
