  • What a bunch of cunts.

The story is certainly worded that way on RT to make them look like that.

The reality, as always, is duller.

  • What is the reality?

  • Daily Record ran front page with it this morning also:

But yes, almost certainly more boring. However, they're still a bunch of cunts.

  • So the system worked like this.

As an MP, you could get assistance for mortgage interest payments on a second home near Westminster. It was an allowable expense.

The MP would foot the bill for the deposit and any repayments - It's possible they were arranging interest only finance.

They would then claim the interest which could be sizeable - up to £24K was claimable IIRC.

That said, renting a property would cost the taxpayer more.

Because the property was bought, not rented, and was their second home, when they sold it they paid capital gains and the treasury got their money back.

The problem was that the MP made money out of it too, because house prices were rising. But that's kind-of not terrible because they bought the property in the first place and shouldered the risk. For the treasury to get their money back the property would need to be sold at a profit.

The mistake was allowing them to claim on property they bought - the system has now changed and they can only claim on property they rent. But that means the treasury doesn't get their money back. And rich MPs can still get richer through property in London.

It's all a bit hate the game not the player.

  • Definitely been used before as Tommy Terrorist used to set up mortar tubes in the back of roofless (ruthless) vans and park them up to go bang. See Downing Street 1991.

  • Gove claimed £340 for a pair of lamps off Samantha Cameron's mum's firm:

  • Can't decide whether I'm more annoyed by him or that those horrid things are £170 each.

I didn't need any more evidence of that particular MP’s qualifications in this area though.

  • Legend.

  • a hero for our times

  • What is the reality?

The reality is RT is Putin's anti-British mouthpiece, constantly running negative, biased stories on Britain. They've been warned by OFCOM about breaking the impartiality rules, so take anything you read on it with a big pinch of salt.

  • As opposed to BBC? Trustworthy, not government regulated, not biased news? It's always good to see both sides of the story.

  • RT is straight up propoganda, laced with just enough truth to remain vaguely credible. It’s an outlet for Putin, it’s definitely not news. Look at their MH17 coverage for e.g.

  • It’s not a side of the story though. It’s designed to provoke reactions like yours by omitting critical details of the story. Compare for example the original Mirror article that they nicked the content from.

  • yeah, never ever click on anything RT

if you want the other side of the story I'd rather read telegraph/mail/daily express than RT.

And obviously the best way to see the other side of the story is when you are outside M25 :P

  • Assange arrested today.

I am aware the court case in Sweden was dropped so what charges is he up against?

  • Assange arrested.
edit - crossed in post ^

  • off to prison you go, rapeychops.

  • I am aware the court case in Sweden was dropped so what charges is he up against?

Skipping bail is a crime in itself.

  • skipping bail/being a cunt

failure to surrender is the technical term i understand. could get up to 12mths in priz

  • You can be arrested for being a cunt?

    ...googles nearest embassy

  • the swedish prosecution for rape can be reactiveated too

  • The political landscape is very different today than when Assange went in to hiding. If the rumours are true then he helped Trump get in power with the whole thing about Clinton's emails, so he's probably at far less risk of being extradited to the USA now, and if he is then he probably won't get nearly as harsh treatment as he would have 7 years ago.
