KMC do black and silver ones. Look pretty decent.

Cheers I’ll have a look.

Not really after triggers though, the idea is to go simple and reliable. I’ve looked at old school xtr, and whilst lovely, is way too pricey for my needs. I just want a bar mounted indexed lever that isn’t shit.

At some point, you have to conclude that the ~£20 Shimano SL-R2000-R Claris trigger is the simple and reliable solution if you don't want to spend a pile of money on some boutique Rube Goldberg device.

The SunRace ones are decent enough, but in the end I swapped the levers for shimano ones and just use friction on a 9-speed casette. You'll get used to friction really fast in my experience.

Thanks. Just couldn't find any other than gold in stock for a reasonable price.

I've found (similar shifters to) these start to show issues after a couple k's, especially when used in the rain. Had to take one apart a while ago, luckily there was some idiot-proof guidance on youtube available.
Any maintenance tips?

While we're on the subject: 10 speed downtube shifters, are shimano DA the only option?
-
• #122886
Are you saying you can modify the sunrace levers?
-
• #122887
I’ll entertain any option, my principal concern is reliability though, triggers seem to be a bit more over engineered.

I think so, but they're really, really nice and work well.

I took the levers off and replaced them with a set of Shimano levers yes. It works well enough for my commuter. My main issue was play in the indexed sunrace lever, which meant you had to move the lever after it had clicked in order to get the chain to run smoothly.
It might have been an issue with improper cable tension, now that I think about it, but I much prefer the friction setup. -

If you've still got them, can you tell me what they're like if you remove the lever part? In other words is it just a standard fitting for any downtube lever like these Paul ones?
or
I have a bunch of spare downtube shifters but would like a mount to use them as thumbies. But not paying Paul prices and don't want to buy Sunrace ones unless I know they'll work.

This is cool! A shame the rack is so high maybe? How are the tyres? Are they 27.5 or 29?

Recently picked this Olmo Mercury up off eBay. Going to get 11speed Campag Record/Chorus groupset, over time it’ll get Shamal Mille wheels and Deda Superleggero finishing kit.

That’s going to be über nice

The rack was fighting me the whole time, I need to adjust it now it's greased up.
Didn't notice how high it was until you mentioned it. The legs are very short though, so I don't know if they'll reach the lower mount points.
Wheels are 26, it's a Troll. #26aintdead

Thanks, I’ve not been this excited about building up a bike in a long time.
Although the tiny little 1” carbon steerer gives me the heebeegeebies

If you're going to have a 1" steerer, carbon is the best choice 🙂

I want to run a 1 1/8th clamp stem.
I’m going to use a shim with the opening opposite the stem clamp.
Reckon it’ll be okay?
Altus, Claris and apparently Tiagra in Shimano.
8 speed flat bar shifter is what you want to search for :)
