My impression is that there is some more nuance to this than what you say. Both of them are dependent on forming a coalition to be able to form a government. I get the impression their boisterous statements are more about telling their potential partners to hurry up if they want to be part of the coalition. It's not the same zero sum game as in Florida 2000.
