  • Internet bike fit is not going to help. Also, some gravel bikes are quite long but stacky and with a slack HT angle (which shorten the reach), as well as designed for shorter stems. Others are as aggressive as a race bike. What's the Stack and Reach of the large, out of curiosity?

  • Top tube (virtual) - 560mm
    Stack - 589mm
    Reach - 379mm

So more stack than any of my road bikes (560 -584), but less reach than them all (380-390)

It comes with a 90mm stem as well

  • In my mind it should be fine - unless I’ve missed something about gravel bike sizing?

  • No different than road bike sizing, a comfortable fitting frame is the same no matter the discipline, gravel bikes are pretty much road bikes with bigger tyres.
I have a Surly Pacer that I just stuck some Gravelkings on, 35mm, thus it went from a road bike to a gravel bike with just a tyre change.
Don't get sucked into sales jargon, buy a bike that fits comfortably and ride it.

  • It's all good - ride like the wind

  • It’s slightly taller and very slightly shorter, option of a 100mm stem after a few rides, sounds good.

  • It comes with a 90mm stem as well

Some gravel bike are made with longer top tube to run with a shorter stem (like the Whyte in 56cm with a whopping 430mm Reach and 607mm Stack).

Echoing everyone else, you'll be fine, good thing you can able to make the bike fit if 90mm is too shorter.

  • To me, a gravel/bike packing/workhorse/whatever is not a race bike. I'd rather have a longer wheelbase, bit less reach (including stem, handlebars, etc), bit more stack and wider bars.
Unless you already have a "comfortable" fit in the road bike already, that is

  • fuck that...you can make anything, anything......Its harder to make a too big bike smaller, granted, but for anything else, stop being such a great big girly girl.

And yes, you can call me out on whatever genderism you want.....you know what I mean!

  • Whyte in 56cm with a whopping 430mm Reach and 607mm Stack

    and fucking 50cm drop bars!

  • stop being such a great big girly girl.

And yes, you can call me out on whatever genderism you want.....you know what I mean!

That women are inherently weaker then men?

Could you not just says delicate flower instead?

  • agreed with ed, leave the needless sexism out of it you idiot

  • I haven't used the flared drops on my new bike at all yet. I'm going to try raising the bars (from slammed position), and see if they offer something like that.

The Apex 1 shifter, or the flared bars, or the combination of the two, has lead to me accidentally up-shifting a few times. The position of the lever and the lightness of the action is the cause, but I suppose you can get used to it.

  • Im alright now I'm sober!
I need to step away from electronics when cider is involved....

  • I need to step away from electronics when cider is involved....

We're all guilty of this. Except I don't drink cider because its for girls...

    ...too soon?

  • I've just had a chance to see the new Ribble CGR in their Birmingham shop. Must say I really like the alloy and carbon ones. Anyone riding one?

  • Anyone riding one?

I think everyone's have been delayed

  • Someone was just buying one when I was having a look, XS so perhaps depends on sizing?
Bike fit pending but I think I found a replacement for my Kepler, might even replace my MTB too, considering what I actually use it for.

  • Back to my geometry question - I was just looking at the Arkose and I'm now thoroughly confused - it's beyond me what some manufacturer's thinking is here.

For my height (181cm) they suggest a size large for the Arkose- eff.top tube of 578mm, stack of 607mm and reach of 398mm!

Whereas Vitus suggest a medium - eff.top tube of 545mm, stack of 568mm and a reach of 371mm

    That's an insane difference?

  • I would completely ignore suggested heights. There’s way too many factors to consider to be able to give an accurate height range. Go with what you know, or test ride something

  • Anyway - the bikes's arrived now - unfortunately because of the discount at the time, Wiggle's 30 day test ride doesn't apply - so I can't ride it outside, if I'm thinking of returning it

Time to set it up and ride round the office then!

  • I agree entirely - I ordered the large based on the TT, stack and reach when compared to my other bikes

It does bug me though - it's not like bike geometry is a mystery and they'll be a lot of people who'll order based on their height because they don't understand TT, stack & reach?

  • I’m always suggested 58cms if I go by my height but I’ve had more than one 56cm which I’ve felt was slightly too big. If you’ve gone for your normal size then stop worrying :)
