• Works rather well that set up above. . I will be there on the 2nd June on my fixed Paragon I think, as I've discovered a rather alarming crack in my chainring on the RRA (they often seem to crack in the same place it seems, right where they screw into the back of the crank arm a la Chater Lea. Both my chainrings have it and the current one is stuck on the crank, I can't shift one of the bolts to get it off and I don't want to mash it up anymore than it is already.) I shall have a good ride with it beforehand to see if it holds up and take it from there.
What sort of time were we thinking of meeting in Staines, as it's take me a while to shlep across London to get there early....?

  • Jeff 80:

If you want to ride the RRA (and a freewheel might come in handy) why not use some other steel chainset? The Raleigh BB spindle is standard size, even if nothing else is.

Undoing those chainring bolts - is it possible to clamp the head of the bolt firmly in a bench vice and then turn the crank itself? Once the ring is off it could probably be welded, although there might be a risk of distortion through unequal heating of the ring.

Meeting time: My preference would be 9.30, but there's plenty of daylight, so it doesn't have to be then. The later the start though, the worse the traffic.
