  • No issues with either.

  • Thanks!

  • It turns out the minor knocking on my rear wasn't a suspected out-of-true rim, since this week it's become major and is actually down to the rim delaminating. I guess the small circumference means these tend to wear down more quickly than standard rims.
Anyway, my fixed conversion is a way off yet, so can @edscoble advise me how much a rim replacement from Evans is likely to cost please?

  • Might be cheaper just to buy a new wheel.

  • Mine's a 3spd, so don't really want the expense of a brand new wheel. An old thread on another forum suggested Evans can replace rim and rebuild for £40 or so. Really hoping that's realistic.

  • £20 rim plus cost to build, I charge £20 for a rim swap using same spokes - if in good enough condition.

    Spokes are £10 though (146mm)

I have a rim you can have for £15 posted - very light use. It’s under possible sold atm, just waiting for a message back. I probably have another one tbh but need to check tomorrow.

  • Cheers. Will definitely take you up on that offer when you know which one you’ll have for sale.

  • I’m in N16 if you need it rebuilt. As @maynardeames says, if the spikes are in good shape then it’s just a rim swap. Pm me if so.

  • Rim is free game.

    Pm to arrange purchase.

  • Just got this:

    Dear Evans Cycles Customer,

We are contacting you as our records show you have purchased a Brompton S6E CHPT3.

Brompton have announced a design enhancement for your particular model of Brompton and are supplying a new cable fender disc for your bike, which will increase the clearance to inhibit front cable wear.

There is nothing to worry about and you are fine to continue riding in the meantime but please ensure you book your first complimentary service at your earliest convenience where this will be addressed. Please be sure to make mention of CHPT3 cable fender disc when booking.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to you.

    Kind regards,

    Evans Cycles Product Recall Team

  • Lovely! New stock colour?

  • Unfortunately, the replacement is no better and the cable can get caught behind it.

  • This one is sold, but another arriving today which I will probably convert to black too!

  • I don't have a Brompton but might like to get one one day...just wanted to say how much I enjoy the knowledge and interest in this thread! After some knuckle dragger yelled abuse at me for daring to exist on a bicycle this morning, it's a nice balancer to see all the good stuff that people help each other with. Keep it up Bromptonians!

  • Oh well, I noticed the cable was a bit too close to the tire the the day I got it. Nothing a zip tie couldn’t fix!

  • Ok, decided to get a rear rack. Suggestions, usual don't break my bank, light, sturdy (i.e. the almost impossible)?

    Did I ask that already?

  • Looking for recommendations for replacement cranks, any limitations on what can be fitted or will any road crankset fit? I think I need the same length as factory fitted or I'd have to swap seat post out given leg length and current saddle height.

  • Lots will "fit" many are too wide for a left folding pedal to fold over. I find the OE cranks a good option, stiff enough, light enough, not bad price. HT2 is heavier, lasts no better and just isnt my cuppa for a brompton!

  • cable...

  • What's the biggest flat pedal that are removable for the brom?

I like the look of the tiparts ones but they look small? I'm used to big proper flat MTB pedals

  • Ti parts one are small, had a look at them up at fudge cycles, and they are about the size of the palm of your hand, maybe a bit bigger.
    Still want some though
