• Regrettably I will have no room for this huge abstract oil on board ( original framing support to rear) by Roland De Cleer commemorating the Holocaust "One of the 6 Million".
    measuring approx 120cm square.
    Purchased from Bonhams in 2008
I think this would be difficult to collect on the tube? - It just fitted in a black cab when I bought it!
    £200 or offers collection only

  • That appreciated in value rather well

  • And your point is ?
Art does go up in value you know, just like bicycles.
I honestly can't remember what I paid for it but if you want to make an offer be my guest.

  • Possibly interested, where are you based ?

Do you have a picture of the back ?

    I am assuming it’s this one ?

Fortunately the Bonhams website has a better memory than you do.

    £12.

  • My 3 year old could do ... etc etc

  • No, the Bonham's website remembered what they sold it for not what I paid. - I bought it ftom a dealer at Spitalfields. I know it was sold by Bonhams in 2008 because I looked it up too - but I couldn't find the sale price.

  • Come now the sales fee and VAT would have been at least another fiver.

Anyway, stop bursting the auratic bubble;art is worth at least as much as the next person is willing to pay for it.

In that respect it's much like crabon trispokes.

  • Come now the sales fee...

  • Hi,
Yes that's the one. I can send you a pic on Sat as I'm working up at Silverstone all tomorrow.
It would appear to have sold for £12 at Bonhams as has been pointed out. I don't remember what I paid and I actually thought I bought it at least 15 years ago.
I used to paint abstracts myself and I bought this because I loved the movement in it.

  • Van Gogh only sold one painting in his life "Red Vinyard" for 400 Francs. So by your rationale it should be available today for a similar figure?

  • I've never commented on what the current price should be, I've merely reminded you what the price was ten years ago as you had, by your own admission, forgotten.

I wonder, if you're so confident that the piece has legitimately appreciated by that much why you chose to list it amongst oily bike parts and pre-worn chamois on a cycling forum?

Also, did it have big windows?

  • No , I said I forgot what I paid - I never knew what it sold for originally.

Lots of OT stuff is offered on here isn't it?

As your better at searching the web than I could you tell me the pre-sale estimate? ( not a sarcastic request - I'd genuinely like to know)

  • Purchased from Bonhams in 2008

This is a strange thing to put in your ad if you were not the purchaser at Bonhams.

No, the Bonham's website remembered what they sold it for not what I paid. - I bought it ftom a dealer at Spitalfields. I know it was sold by Bonhams in 2008 because I looked it up too - but I couldn't find the sale price.

Then you didn't look very hard, on both Bonham's mobile and desktop sites the price is clearly visible on the page which is reached by either searching 'Roland De Cleer' from within the Bonhams site or clicking the link which Google returns for a search of 'Roland De Cleer Bonhams'.

--Redacted as I have no proof of this part of my post.--

  • That's called "provenance"
    No I didn't look very hard .
What exactly are you trying to achieve with this?
Do you check every price folks here sell for ?
What about this -I also bought at Spitalfields :-

Terribly over priced compared to retail?

All that you've done is trolled a sale based on an auction record which is not a guide of market value - otherwise most galleries would be out of business -
I was hoping to accept an offer of around 150 which I think is very good value.

  • wow i never knew you could get decently priced art at bonhams
always thought it was 5 figures +

  • ...otherwise most galleries would be out of business

This is not a gallery, it’s a cycling community.

If you ever ventured outside if the classifieds section you might understand that.

  • But if you bought a Cinelli laser for £12 at auction you'd sell it on for the same?

  • If I could find a Cinelli Laser that I could afford, why the hell would I ever sell it?!

But yeah, I’ve been lucky enough to be able to turn a profit on plenty of bike parts. Not by selling on here though.

  • An oil that's 14400 sq cm for £200 is ~1.4p per sq cm.

Cheap. You can barely buy a large blank canvas and paint for that.

  • this was my thinking as I fell asleep last night. Canvas and stretcher, priming... significant number of £££s even if your roll your own : )

  • It’s oil on board though..

  • So, at a pinch, you could use it as a fencing panel? Christ, it’s even better value...

  • Hmm, it must be Friday
