• Hello, this is an old post but I just felt like sharing what I know with you. Back in 1981 I bought the Miyata cycle 750st. It is not a pre-Koga model it was just not assembled by Koga in Holland. This bike came directly from the Miyata factory in Japan. The ST was the touring model with mudguards and rack. It came in white and blue. I still have a white one. There was also a road bike model 750SR. The SR came in Gold/brown and blue. They were assembled with Shimano Altus and Tourney parts.
The Miyata Cycle had it’s own catalog, it was never in a Koga Miyata catalog. I bought the ST in 1981 and paid 975 dutch guilders for it. The Koga Miyata bikes were in the 2000 range and as a 14 year old I could not afford that.
Your bike is/was the touring version. It is in a original state. Even the handlebar tape is original. The bike has other tires and it misses mudguards, rack and lights powered by a dynamo. You can see the points on the frame where these parts used to be mounted. Also you can see screws on the inside of your brakelevers, this is where safety brakes were mounted so you didn’t have to go down to the drop for braking.
