I've used the same light for a few years, in different locations. Mostly under the Bagman or seatstay, so not directly in the spray, but this has been fine through this winter too, and the same light has been through years of use. But yeah the open bottom should not be placed so that water is directed on it.
The red part is also a reflector, which is nice.
