Anything that's more common in the UK?

(looks more like emergency shelter but it is fully covered unlike SOL)The older one is cheaper, dunno about its coating

not if you want the best.

• #305
rock solid (event, goretext) bivi with mesh net? Are there any?
-
• #306
I'd love to find something like that but it all seems to be US custom built or quite low volume and the costs/timeframe are too high. What about using your current bivvy and adding a mesh head net?
-
• #307
I could, but it's 650g and huge. I'd love something smaller
-
• #308
I'm kinda in that place with mine. I think mine is the cheaper version of yours and I want something lighter/smaller with a mesh net for super breathability. Not seeing much available. I'll probably just end up taking what I've got.
-
• #309
Yeah annoying someone does not do these top level style ones in the UK.

(can't tell in pick, is it ONLY mesh on the face box bit ?)I wonder if that is actually waterproof, seems to cheap/light to be true.

Sounds like it.

The Moonlite bag cover is an asset to our award-winning range of bivi bags. This waterproof and breathable bivi has been updated in 2014 and now has a mesh upper section with zip closure at the head. Along with a draw cord closure at the entry, it is fully seam sealed making it the minimalist's perfect choice to couple with a tarp. The Moonlite's tiny pack size and weight also means it can double up as a survival bag on longer trips. Used with the new mini tarps it makes a great sleeping system.

But then review:
"The face net keeps the mosquitos out, but will allow rain onto your face"

• #313
Maybe I'll buy some fabric and get my own made.
-
• #314
Given they don't say what material it is made out of, I don't believe it's waterproof.
The rab alpine would be my shout off the shelf in the uk
-
• #316
I mean that would break getting it out in the dark.
-
• #317
in the EU nobody makes a great one.
Marco from As Tucas could probably do you something custom.
Trekkertent likewise. -
• #318
Is it possible to buy event or gotetex fabric? I couldn't see it.
I know some that could make one. -

here you go - https://www.extremtextil.de/en/fabrics/breathable-and-waterproof.html
I buy from these guys in the past - great site. their buckles are amazing!

Really rate my Mountain Equipment Ion bivvy. 1500hh, so just waterproof, but had an absolute soaker in Scotland and sayed dry. Only 280gms. Can pick them up for £70-£80
-
• #322
But.... your current jobber is 650g, and that stuff is 135g/sqm. A bivvy is gonna need at least 4sqm all in, no? That’s 540g before you’ve added any hardware.
Edit, though I suppose you are going to really trim it aren’t you? Limited movement and no lining I guess you could get it under 3sqm
-
• #323
Yeah that was my thought, trim it. My.current rab ascent is big, so if I make this one tight itll loose a lot.
Weight isn't my no1 concern, pack size is. -
• #324
Are you going to have sleep pad and sleeping bag in it? Because if so, you need to not make it too tight or you won't fit that stuff and/or you'll compress your bag too much.
-
• #325
Yeah options to consider.
I think the mountain laurel designs soul is close to the spec I'd do. It's pretty ideal.
What's the smallest, lightest bivvy that's waterproof with the ability to fully zip it closed?
ie. not a fly-only top, no open or cinch-only end.
I'm tempted to forgo the closure ability and just get a SOL but I sleep better when completely covered and with down stuff I'm paranoid about getting it wet.
