  • But in the UK they mean the same thing right? And for the things we call "audaxes" i.e the events run by audax UK nobody says "oooh I'm randonneuring". Or do they?

  • Dadoneuring? Auda(d)x?
    Either way, very cool!

  • Sort of. There are numerous 'challenges' within the Audax UK structure which refer to Randonneuring, like RRTY, Super Randonneur, etc.

    From AUK website:

What do the words 'Randonnée' and 'Randonneur' mean?
'Randonnée' is a French word which loosely translates to 'ramble or 'long journey' - it's not really cycling-specific, but in AUK we take it to mean a long cycle ride.
A 'Randonneur' is a person who has completed a recognised 200 kilometre ride.

  • Like hippy, the audaxers in the UK I know who talk about randonneuring tend to have encountered it overseas first (US, Canada, France) or be those who actually do UAF audaxes as well.

  • Planning to get a bar bag for this one to get it audax ready. Any thoughts? Currently looking at Road Runner Burrito Supreme, as it's got decent capacity but doesn't take up too much of the bar.

  • That's the tricky bit. UK people who do randos as well as audaxes have to make the distinction because they're different events. But they're a small portion of the people who use rando and audax interchangeably here. It's like computer geeks who know about and care about the difference between ROM and RAM whereas most people just think "memory". Maybe?

  • Thanks for that, nice bag! Went with the burrito in the end as its got more capacity.

  • Fork, wheels, and taking a quarter of the luggage (lose rack and bag) are your best ways to improve weight there I think.
Riding a heavy bike can be naff but audax is one of those nice areas in which you can do it, and do it slowly and its all good

  • How do you find the Rapha frame bag? Looks great!

  • I hope it was at least a 300km ride with that frame bag.

  • I’ve only ridden with it once, my mum bought it for me haha.
I like the ridgidty of it, it fits my frame well and I like that it’s got the reflective stripes. I’d perhaps prefer it to have a zip pull.

  • Nope, only 200km. I need to start testing kit for the summer though and riding with more weight :-)

  • That the medium version? What have you used under the straps? I've an apidura one and have a bit of rubbing on the frame

  • Large, I ride an XL frame. Just electrical tape good as it’s low tack. Will probably succumb and put heli tape on.

  • cool, thanks for the tip

  • Pelago Sibbo. I like the road bike like geometry, while it has clearance for decent gravel tyres.

  • Not mine.

  • Loads of the Audax crew out last week had TT bars on their bikes and I didn't see a single one of them using them. Even when, the road flattened and we had a tailwind.

Is the TT bar the new way to say "I'm planning on doing PBP"?

  • hopefully following this
